Position Description
We are seeking an energetic, creative, and inspiring Dance Teacher to lead a dynamic dance program for all girls in Grades 5–8, in addition to serving as the choreographer for the Upper School musical. This educator will cultivate confidence, creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts through engaging instruction that welcomes dancers of all experience levels. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator who creates an inclusive, joyful classroom culture, encourages artistic expression, and collaborates effectively with faculty, students, and families.
Job Responsibilities
Middle School Dance Program
- Teach engaging dance classes for all students in Grades 5–8.
- Partner with Upper School Dance Teacher to ensure appropriate scope and sequence in 5th – 12th dance programming.
- Develop a curriculum that introduces a variety of dance styles, including contemporary, jazz, musical theater, hip-hop, lyrical, and basic ballet, while emphasizing technique, creativity, and performance skills.
- Foster an inclusive classroom where every student feels encouraged to participate, take risks, and grow as a performer.
- Co-produce both dance concerts each year (first and second semester) with Upper School Dance Teacher.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of both beginning and experienced dancers.
- Integrate movement, music appreciation, choreography, wellness, and collaboration into daily lessons.
- Assess student progress through performances, projects, and ongoing feedback.
Musical Choreography
- Choreograph and teach all dance numbers for the Upper School musical.
- Collaborate closely with the theater director and production team to create engaging, age-appropriate, and visually compelling performances.
- Attending all pre-production meetings, summer auditions in addition to every rehearsal and performance is mandatory.
- Assist in preparing students for performances, showcases, assemblies, and school events.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience teaching dance required with middle school instruction preferred.
- Experience choreographing musical theater productions.
- Knowledge of multiple dance styles and age-appropriate instructional practices.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Collaborative spirit with enthusiasm for working across divisions.

The St. Paul’s Schools has a compensation scale based on direct years of experience and degree held. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s years of experience, education and skills. For this opportunity, our salary range is $45,800 to $62,000 annually. Compensation for the upper school musical is an additional stipend. Candidates with additional experience or qualifications may be offered a salary outside of the range shown.
