Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Department Information

The Department of Leadership, Research, and School Improvement in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia invites applications for the Clinical Assistant Professor. The College of Education is a doctoral-granting unit committed to preparing transformational leaders, scholar-practitioners, and systems-level change agents who advance school improvement across diverse educational contexts. The University of West Georgia provides strong institutional support for faculty research, mentoring, external funding development, and sustained partnerships with P-12 school districts and state leadership organizations.

Located 45 miles west of Atlanta, UWG is a rapidly growing, doctoral comprehensive university with a diverse faculty and student body. The Department of Leadership, Research, and School Improvement offers Tier I and Tier II Educational Leadership certification programs, an Ed.S., and an Ed.D. in School Improvement, serving candidates across Georgia through flexible and innovative program delivery models. The department maintains strong partnerships with more than 150 school districts and private schools statewide and is recognized as a leader in preparing school and district administrators.

This is a ten-month, on-campus (not remote) appointment. The Department of Leadership, Research, and School Improvement enrolls almost 1,000 graduate students enrolled in programs ranging from graduate certificates, masters, specialist, and doctoral level. The educational leadership programs are the largest provider of leaders to Georgia schools, including 6 of the last 12 state superintendents of the year.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service aligned with the mission of the department and university, supporting continued program growth, leadership development, and research that advances instructional improvement and organizational effectiveness in P-12 schools.

Job Summary

This is a clinical assistant faculty position in the Department of Leadership, Research, and School Improvement (LRS). We seek a scholar-practitioner with expertise in one or more areas aligned to educational leadership and school improvement, including:

Instructional leadership and leadership for student learning
Organizational leadership and systems improvement
School culture, climate, and community engagement
Data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement cycles
Leadership development and coaching
Research methodology (quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods)
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses across the Educational Doctoral in School Improvement (EDSI), Tier I, and Tier II Educational Leadership programs.
Responsibilities include supporting doctoral-level scholarship and capstone supervision in the EDSI program, mentoring aspiring and practicing school leaders, and contributing to leadership preparation aligned with Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) standards.

Faculty are expected to maintain an active and productive program of scholarship appropriate to rank, pursue external funding where applicable, and engage in meaningful service to the department, college, university, and profession. The candidate will also collaborate with P¿12 partners to strengthen program innovation, field-based experiences, and leadership pipelines.

An on-campus presence is required for meetings, program events, doctoral defenses, partnership engagement, and other faculty responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Teach graduate courses in the Tier I, Tier II, and EDSI programs, including high-quality online and hybrid instruction, and supervise field experiences and capstone projects.
Maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to rank, contributing research that advances educational leadership and school improvement.
Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, accreditation efforts, and professional organizations.
Contribute to program development, recruitment, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen leadership preparation.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required Education:
Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, School Improvement, Educational Administration, or a closely related field (ABD considered at the Assistant Professor level, with degree completion required prior to appointment).

Required Experience:
Minimum of five years of leadership experience in P-12 educational settings (e.g., assistant principal, principal, district-level leader, instructional coach, or related leadership role).
Demonstrated successful experience in teaching, mentoring, or supporting adult learners in educational leadership or related graduate programs.
Candidates must demonstrate strong technology and communication skills to effectively use digital tools and platforms for email, professional communication, and collaboration with students, colleagues, and stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Georgia Professional Standards Commission policies and procedures.
Established record and ongoing involvement with PK-12 school districts and professional state and national organizations.
Online teaching experience.
Strong technological skills are required to effectively design, deliver, and manage instruction in online learning systems, with prior experience teaching online courses using CourseDen preferred.
