Underground Plumbing Helper – Entry Level / Career Opportunity Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Underground Plumbing Helper to join our construction team. This is a hands-on position working with our underground plumbing crew and is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn the plumbing trade and build a long-term career.
The job consists of digging, trench work, jobsite preparation, underground pipe installation, and assisting plumbers with service and construction plumbing work. You will work alongside experienced plumbers and crew members while learning proper installation techniques, tool use, jobsite safety, and the fundamentals of the plumbing trade.
No extensive plumbing experience is required. We are looking for someone who is willing to work hard, learn, and grow. For the right person, there is an opportunity to gain experience and work toward becoming a skilled plumber.
Responsibilities
- Perform digging, trenching, backfilling, and other underground plumbing work
- Complete jobsite prep work before plumbing installations begin
- Assist plumbers with the installation of underground water, sewer, and plumbing lines
- Help measure, cut, assemble, and install pipe and fittings
- Assist with service plumbing work as needed
- Load, unload, organize, and move pipe, fittings, tools, and jobsite materials
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment
- Help prepare trenches and work areas for pipe installation
- Keep jobsites, trucks, tools, and work areas clean and organized
- Follow company safety procedures and jobsite requirements
- Work closely with plumbers, equipment operators, and other underground crew members
- Learn proper plumbing installation methods, materials, tools, and procedures
- Take on additional responsibilities as skills and experience develop
Qualifications
- Construction, plumbing, excavation, or general labor experience is preferred but not required
- Must be comfortable performing physical labor and digging
- Ability to work outdoors and in changing weather conditions
- Comfortable working around trenches, construction equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Basic mechanical ability and willingness to learn
- Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a crew
- Dependable, punctual, and ready to work
- Strong attention to jobsite safety
- Basic math and measurement skills are helpful
- Plumbing or underground utility experience is a plus
