The Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Graphic Designer within the Research Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical, and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The Research Division provides high quality policy analysis, research support and other assistance to the Nevada Legislature, individual Legislators, legislative committees and constituents. This is a full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada.
Position Description: Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Publications and Production Services, the Graphic Designer will guide the design and presentation of a variety of publications and other work products for print and electronic publication. Responsibilities of the Graphic Designer may include, without limitation:
- Designing layouts for text and graphics across print media, including brochures, pamphlets, policy briefs, manuals and books;
- Advising on creative direction for the Research Division’s work products and publications;
- Assisting in the implementation of brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all work products;
- Creating and manipulating visual assets such as infographics, photographs and other graphic elements;
- Coordinating print production and serving as a liaison to the State Printing Office;
- Preparing press-ready files and artwork for publication;
- Developing and modifying layouts and templates in various design programs, including Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Microsoft PowerPoint and Word;
- Collaborating with Research Division staff on visual communication strategies to present complex information clearly and effectively;
- Ensuring accessibility compliance across all work products; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: The Graphic Designer will be selected with special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in the field of graphic design. A qualified applicant must have: (1) an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in graphic design or a closely related field that includes course work
in design and production; and (2) at least two years of experience performing graphic arts and design work; or (3) an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Advanced graphic design expertise with versatility across print and digital formats;
- Comprehensive knowledge of art production, page layout, design principles and print workflows;
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat;
- Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to multitask, follow direction and apply established production processes;
- Exceptional attention to detail in visual design and typography;
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure to produce a significant quantity of work products of high quality within specific deadlines;
- The ability to clearly communicate design choices and explain technical information or methods related to art production and printing to colleagues;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
- Familiarity with or the ability to learn about and implement accessibility standards for ADA compliance;
- A commitment to collaboration with the ability to give and receive constructive criticism to develop creative solutions;
- The ability to work professionally and impartially with diverse colleagues and stakeholders;
- Familiarity with the legislative environment or the ability to learn its unique processes and workflows; and
- The ability to self-manage, self-motivate and adapt in a dynamic work setting.
Salary: The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 36, which has a salary range of $67,296 to $100,098 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in a typical office setting. In certain situations and at the discretion of management, a portion of the Graphic Designer’s duties may be performed virtually and remotely. Overtime is required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Graphic Designer may earn compensatory time that may be taken at a later date or be paid for overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits. Infrequent travel may be required between Carson City and Las Vegas, Nevada, or to other locations. Such travel may be outside normal business hours.
