Full Job Description

Job Title: PRN Infusion Nurse (RN)

Reports To: Practice Administrator, Infusion Nurse Supervisor

Work Schedule: As needed only, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)

Empowered Arthritis and Rheumatology Center (EARC) is looking for a compassionate, skilled Infusion Nurse (RN) to join our close-knit clinical team in our comfortable, modern infusion center. You'll build real relationships with patients as you help them manage chronic rheumatological and autoimmune conditions, and play a key role in our mission of empowering patients through timely, personalized care. Position Summary

The Infusion Nurse is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for the safe, accurate, and compassionate administration of intravenous (IV) infusions and injections to patients with rheumatologic conditions. Working under the clinical direction of the practice’s providers, this role manages every phase of the infusion experience-from patient assessment and vascular access through monitoring, education, and documentation-while upholding the highest standards of patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. Strong infusion and IV therapy experience is essential; rheumatology experience is preferred but not required, as the practice will support the right candidate in developing specialty-specific expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical & Infusion Care

· Prepare and administer IV infusions and injections according to provider orders and established protocols.

· Verify orders, medications, dosages, and patient identity using established safety checks prior to administration.

· Establish and maintain peripheral IV access

· Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot infusion pumps and related equipment.

· Perform lab draws and specimen collection as needed

Assessment & Patient Monitoring

· Complete pre-infusion checklists, assessments, including vital signs, allergies, current medications, and relevant clinical history.

· Continuously monitor patients before, during, and after infusion for adverse reactions or side effects.

· Recognize and respond promptly to infusion reactions, initiating emergency protocols and escalating to providers as needed.

· Document patient status, response to therapy, and interventions accurately and in real time.

Patient Education & Experience

· Educate patients and caregivers on their therapy, expected duration, potential side effects, and self-monitoring.

· Provide reassurance and compassionate support to patients, many of whom manage chronic autoimmune conditions.

· Foster a calm, welcoming, and professional infusion environment.

Coordination, Documentation & Supplies

· Document all assessments, medication administration, and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (eClinicalWorks/eCW).

· Coordinate with providers, specialty pharmacies, and the prior-authorization team to ensure timely access to therapy.

· Schedule and confirm infusion appointments in coordination with the front-office team.

· Maintain infusion supplies, medication inventory, and equipment readiness; report shortages and expired items.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

· Maintain strict aseptic and infection-control technique in all procedures.

· Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of medications and biohazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and practice policy.

· Maintain emergency-response readiness and participate in emergency procedures.

· Support quality-improvement initiatives and adherence to clinical best practices.

Qualifications

Required

· Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Carolina (or a valid multistate/compact license).

· Demonstrated infusion and IV therapy experience (the most important qualification), including proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and venipuncture.

· Current BLS/CPR certification.

· Working knowledge of infusion pumps, vascular access, and electronic health record documentation.

· Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm in high-acuity situations.

· A patient-centered approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

· Rheumatology experience (preferred, not required).

· Experience administering biologic therapies commonly used in rheumatology (e.g., infliximab, rituximab, abatacept, tocilizumab, golimumab, belimumab, and zoledronic acid).

· Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) certification.

· Familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW).

Pay: $40.00 - $49.00 per hour
