Full Job Description

Kaehne & Barrette, S.C. is a respected criminal defense law firm serving clients throughout Sheboygan County and surrounding communities. We are committed to protecting our clients’ rights and providing strategic, compassionate, and results-driven representation.

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented legal assistant to support our criminal defense practice. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our office runs efficiently and our clients receive exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, format, and file legal documents with Wisconsin courts (including e-filing)
Maintain and organize case files (digital and physical)
Manage attorney calendars, court dates, and deadlines
Communicate professionally with clients, court staff, law enforcement agencies, and prosecutors
Draft correspondence and assist with preparation for hearings and trials
Answer phones and manage client intake
Process mail and maintain confidential records
Assist with billing and administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications

Prior office experience required (legal office experience preferred; criminal law experience a plus)
Strong knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Experience with Wisconsin Circuit Court e-filing system preferred

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required
Paralegal certificate a plus

Starting wage is based on experience. We offer a competitive benefits package including 401(k) matching and disability insurance, to begin after a probationary period.
