Engineering Technician Role Overview

As an Engineering Technician I, you will conduct testing for geotechnical engineering and construction materials projects. The Engineering Technician performs testing on soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt in field and laboratory settings. This role involves frequent site visits—often multiple per day—requiring strong time management and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

Use exceptional time management skills and manage multiple assignments at any time.
Perform laboratory analyses, construction observation, and materials testing.
Collect field samples and document field data.
Ensure all work is conducted safely and accurately.
Work in a safe, efficient, and detail-oriented manner
Perform laboratory analyses in support of construction materials testing (CMT) and geotechnical engineering projects
CMT field activities include, but are not limited to, the density of soils, aggregates, asphalt, various properties of freshly placed concrete, deep foundation observations, pier reinforcing steel observations, and masonry testing.
Ensure all laboratory equipment is cleaned and in good condition
Ensure all field equipment is cleaned and in good condition
Maintain meticulous daily logs and data entry for payroll and client billing.
Ensure that the workspace and vehicle are always kept clean and safe.

Our top priority is delivering high-quality, timely service that meets client needs and project deadlines as determined by our Principal Engineer and Vice President.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with fellow Advanced Geotechnical Solutions employees, contractors, and client representatives. Maintaining and promoting a safe work environment is essential for this role.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Fundamental mathematical skills.
Advanced written and verbal skills; ability to explain technical findings to both engineers and site contractors.
Basic construction and maintenance knowledge.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must be proficient with AGS’s CMT software within 3 weeks of starting
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Reliable transportation to and from work.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

This role involves both outdoor and indoor work, requiring exposure to various weather conditions, from heat and wind to cold, ice, and slippery surfaces.
Must be capable of routinely lifting up to 80 pounds.
Periodic overnight travel and occasional out-of-state travel may be required.
Occasional to frequent work days that exceed 10 hours and work weeks that exceed 40 hours.
