Full Job Description

Position Description:

The WSCI Respite/Homemaker Worker is a member of the home care team who assists the client with in home respite services while their caregiver takes a break, performs cleaning and light housekeeping functions, assists with shopping, provides companionship and performs other duties as directed by the Program Manager, Home Services Coordinator or WSCI Executive Director. This position assists the client in a hands-off manner.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. WSCI Respite/Homemaker Worker must be at least 18 years of age.

2. Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position.

3. Must exhibit mature responsible behavior, and understand the need for patient confidentiality.

4. Must be able to read, and write.

5. Must be able to follow direction and accurately report to the WyHS Coordinator or Program Manager.

6. Must have available reliable transportation to and from assignments.

7. One year of working with seniors preferred.

8. Must not have any felony or misdemeanor convictions, or substantiations related to abuse, neglect, exploitation, intimidation, abandonment, sexual assault, or murder.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The duties of a Respite Worker/Homemaker Worker may include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Record pertinent information into the client’s care file.

2. Provide care to the client as described in the client Service Plan.

3. Complete required client task sheets and timesheet accurately and timely.

4. Remind clients to take medication at the appropriate time.

5. Provide standby assistance for showers. (Standby – be in area in case client should fall while in shower, it does not include assisting client with the act of bathing.)

6. Plan and prepare meals according to specific dietary requirements of the client.

7. Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment through light housekeeping including changing bed linens, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning kitchen, cleaning bathroom, and laundry.

8. Provide companionship and stimulation for the client including reading, walks, letter writing, etc.

9. Perform grocery shopping when needed.

10. Observe and report changes in client’s condition to this agency Program Manager/Coordinator.

11. Participate in in-service education programs.

EXEMPT POSITION:

The position of Respite Worker is not an “Exempt” position as classified under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Respite Worker is classified as “PART-TIME” and does not qualify for medical, dental, vision or life insurance benefits.
