Full Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Construction Financial Analyst to oversee project financial health, streamline our billing processes, and drive accurate forecasting. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our field operations and accounting, managing subcontractor invoice reconciliation, client draw schedules, and cash flow projections. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our management team to assist with project estimating, ensuring historical cost data is accurately leveraged for future bids.

Key Responsibilities

1. Billing, Draws, and Accounts Receivable

Manage Client Billings: Prepare and submit monthly progress billings, bank draw packages, and cost-plus reconciliations in accordance with contract terms.
Subcontractor & Vendor Compliance: Review, verify, and process subcontractor invoices and in-house receipts against purchase orders and project schedules to ensure accurate monthly billing.
Draw Tracking: Coordinate with project managers, clients, and lenders to facilitate prompt draw approvals, inspections, and fund disbursements.

2. Financial Forecasting and Analysis

Project Cost Control: Monitor project budgets, track commitments, and perform Variance Analysis (Budget vs. Actual) to identify potential cost overruns early.
Cash Flow Forecasting: Develop and maintain monthly project cash flow forecasts to ensure healthy working capital throughout the build cycle.
Margin & Profitability Tracking: Analyze monthly project profitability, calculating accurate cost-to-complete projections and earned revenue.

3. Estimating Assistance & Cost Database Management

Historical Cost Analysis: Maintain and update our unit-cost database by analyzing completed project data to improve future estimate accuracy.
Bid Package Collaboration: Assist the estimating team with takeoff verifications, cost comparisons of subcontractor bids, and final budget assembly.
Risk Assessment: Identify financial risks in subcontractor bids (e.g., volatile material pricing, labor shortages) and build contingency models.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree (4-year degree) in Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
Experience: 2–5 years of experience in financial analysis, project accounting, or cost engineering, preferably within the residential, custom home, or commercial construction industry.
Technical Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, financial modeling).
Hands-on experience with construction management and scheduling software (e.g., Buildertrend, Procore, Sage, or equivalent PM platforms) is highly preferred.
Familiarity with standard accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).

Preferred Competencies

Construction IQ: Strong understanding of construction billing methods (AIA G702/703, Cost-Plus, Fixed Price, and Progress Billings).
Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex project data into clear, actionable financial reports for management.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with project managers, estimators, subcontractors, and clients.
Adaptability: Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
