Location: Community-Based — Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Centennial, and surrounding communities
Employment Type: Part-Time (15–25 hours per week) with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on performance, business needs, and availability
Pay: $19.00–$23.00 per hour
Position Summary
The Employment Mentor provides individualized employment support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental health disabilities as they obtain, learn, and maintain competitive integrated employment. This position focuses on helping participants develop vocational skills, increase independence, and successfully integrate into their workplaces through hands-on coaching, teaching, and community-based support.
Employment Mentors spend the majority of their workday in the community at participant job sites, businesses, and other employment-related locations throughout Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Centennial, and surrounding communities. This is an active, hands-on position that requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt coaching strategies to each individual's unique needs. As our organization continues to grow, there is potential for this position to transition into a full-time role.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide one-on-one job coaching at community employment sites.
- Teach job tasks using individualized instructional techniques and evidence-based coaching strategies.
- Support participants in learning workplace expectations, communication skills, professionalism, time management, and appropriate social interactions.
- Assist participants with developing independence while gradually reducing direct support whenever appropriate.
- Observe work performance and identify areas requiring additional coaching or skill development.
- Collaborate with employers to identify strengths, address concerns, and develop strategies that support long-term employment success.
- Build positive relationships with participants, supervisors, coworkers, families, case managers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and other members of the support team.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including case notes and required Medicaid and vocational rehabilitation documentation.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency policies.
- Respond professionally to unexpected situations while maintaining participant safety and dignity.
- Travel throughout Highlands Ranch and surrounding communities to participant job sites during the workday.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and electronic documentation systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple participant schedules.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
- Retail
- Food service or restaurant operations
- Hospitality or customer service
- Coaching, mentoring, or training others
- Working with individuals with disabilities
- Special education
- Human services
- Behavioral health
- Direct Support Professional (DSP) services
- Vocational rehabilitation
- Supported employment
- Working with transition-age students or school-based programs
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active position that requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods, often for several consecutive hours.
- Bend, kneel, squat, reach, twist, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
- Lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.
- Work alongside participants in fast-paced employment settings.
- Navigate retail stores, restaurants, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, offices, and other community work environments.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Drive between multiple community job sites throughout the day.
- Use a computer, tablet, and smartphone to complete documentation and communication.
Because Employment Mentors are actively coaching participants on the job, this position involves significantly more standing, walking, and movement than a traditional office position.
Work Environment
This is not a desk job. Employment Mentors spend most of their workday providing hands-on support within community businesses throughout Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Centennial, and surrounding communities.

- Restaurants and food service establishments
- Grocery stores
- Manufacturing facilities
- Warehouses
- Offices
- Recreation facilities
- Community organizations
- Government agencies
- Other competitive integrated employment settings
Work schedules are based on participant employment and business needs and may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Flexibility is expected to meet participant and employer needs.
