Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Contributes to, performs, or supports the University’s research initiatives. Specifically, to serve as a Research Associate (R2) under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) conducting research on projects as a result of funding provided by NIH grants. Research will focus on examining the mechanisms underlying the induction of various inflammatory diseases. Research will involve conducting flow cytometry, scRNA, spatial transcriptomics, microbiome, and epigenetic analyses. Performs laboratory research assessing the mechanisms underlying the development of inflammatory diseases. Performs bacterial identification and characterization as well as sequencing data (including methylation/demethylation, histone modification and chromatin accessibility) to determine gene dysregulation in various cells from different tissue that are involved. Maintains laboratory notebook with accurate and detailed records of experiments and presents these in informal settings and formal laboratory discussions, group meetings, symposia and importantly, publishes these findings in a prompt manner. Updates all laboratory personnel on current methodology and equipment capabilities, ongoing experiments, and future research directions. Assists in training other personnel in the laboratory. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations. This position is established in support of expanded research activities.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Expertise in -omics research.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of hazards of laboratory activities and related safety practices, skilled in setting up, care and use of laboratory equipment.
The ability to develop and assist with development of new and improved methodology.
Experience in writing scientific papers and presenting research.
Required to conduct research activities lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
