Expected Growth: Position is expected to transition to 35–40 hours per week as service demand and program needs increase
Reports To: Independent Living Supervisor – Cedar City
Travel Required: Yes – frequent travel throughout Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties
Remote Work: Limited remote work may be available with supervisor approval and based on service coverage needs
About Red Rock Center for Independence
Red Rock Center for Independence (RRCI) is a nonprofit Center for Independent Living serving individuals with disabilities throughout Southwestern and Central Utah. RRCI promotes independence, self-determination, advocacy, community participation, and equal access for people with disabilities.
We are seeking a motivated and community-oriented Independent Living Coordinator based in Cedar City to help provide and expand services throughout Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties.
Position Overview
The Independent Living Coordinator provides consumer-directed services that help individuals with disabilities live more independently, participate in their communities, and achieve personally meaningful goals. This position works directly with consumers to develop Independent Living Plans, provide independent living skills training, support community access, connect individuals with resources, and promote disability rights and self-advocacy.
This position will serve communities throughout Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties, including Cedar City, Enoch, Parowan, Paragonah, Beaver, Milford, Minersville, Delta, Fillmore, and surrounding rural areas. The successful candidate should be comfortable traveling, working independently, building community relationships, and collaborating closely with the Cedar City, St. George, and Richfield RRCI teams.
What You’ll Do
Provide Independent Living Services
- Conduct consumer intakes and assist with identifying independent living goals.
- Develop and maintain person-centered Independent Living Plans.
- Provide individualized support, advocacy, information, referral, and service coordination.
- Help consumers access community resources related to housing, transportation, healthcare, benefits, employment, education, and daily living.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with program and grant requirements.
Teach Independent Living Skills
- Provide one-on-one and group-based independent living skills training.
- Teach skills related to self-advocacy, disability rights, budgeting, communication, problem-solving, community navigation, household management, and personal independence.
- Plan or assist with activities, workshops, meetings, and support groups that promote independent living and community participation.
Support Youth and Transition Services
- Coordinate with youth Independent Living Specialists and other RRCI staff.
- Support youth and young adults with disabilities as they prepare for post-secondary education, employment, independent living, and community involvement.
- Build relationships with schools, special education programs, adult education providers, Southern Utah University, Southwest Technical College, and other post-high education or training partners.
- Participate in transition-related activities or meetings when appropriate.
Build Community Partnerships
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, referral sources, service providers, schools, chambers of commerce, healthcare organizations, senior centers, workforce programs, and local government entities.
- Represent RRCI at community meetings, outreach events, coalitions, and resource activities.
- Increase awareness of RRCI services throughout Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties.
- Identify service gaps and help expand outreach in rural and underserved communities.
Assist with Assistive Technology and Loan Bank Services
- Help consumers identify assistive technology that may support independence.
- Coordinate short-term equipment loans through RRCI’s Loan Bank.
- Maintain accurate equipment loan documentation.
- Collaborate with the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation and other partners regarding long-term assistive technology needs, assessments, and resources.
Support Transportation and Community Access
- Provide travel training and transportation-related problem-solving.
- Assist consumers in developing transportation plans.
- May provide consumer transportation when approved and necessary to support independent living goals.
Collaborate with RRCI Staff
- Participate in Cedar City team meetings and other required staff meetings.
- Maintain regular communication with the IL Supervisor and other RRCI staff.
- Coordinate with staff in Cedar City, St. George, Richfield, and other service areas.
- Follow RRCI policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and documentation standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong understanding of and commitment to Independent Living philosophy.
- Commitment to disability rights, self-determination, inclusion, and consumer choice.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization, follow-through, and documentation skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with consumers, community partners, and coworkers.
- Valid Utah Driver License.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic documentation systems.
Preferred
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Personal or professional experience with disability services, independent living, rehabilitation, education, social services, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Education, Disability Studies, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of local community resources in Iron, Beaver, or Millard Counties.
- Experience with outreach, group facilitation, case coordination, or skills training.
Work Schedule
This position will initially work 30 hours per week and is expected to transition to 35–40 hours per week as service needs, funding, and program growth allow. Some evening or occasional weekend hours may be required for community events, consumer activities, or outreach efforts.
Limited remote work may be approved after onboarding, depending on performance, documentation quality, service coverage, and supervisor approval.
