The Data Center Logistics Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating daily safety operations within client data center, warehouse, construction-adjacent, and deployment environments. This role functions as the dedicated safety point of contact, field-level safety leader, and first level of safety escalation for all site logistics, construction-adjacent, and deployment activities.
The Safety Coordinator oversees hazard identification, pre-task safety planning, safety communication, incident and near-miss management, corrective action tracking, safety training reinforcement, and compliance with client and regulatory safety requirements. This role works closely with the DC Logistics Manager, site safety personnel, construction leadership, operations leadership, and client representatives to ensure all work is planned, communicated, and executed in alignment with established hazard controls, safety procedures, and site-specific requirements.
Active Construction Environment & Required Personal Protective Equipment.
This role operates within an active data center construction and deployment environment. Employees may work in or around construction zones, loading docks, staging areas, equipment pathways, partially completed data halls, and areas with ongoing trade activity. Work conditions may include exposure to moving equipment, construction materials, uneven surfaces, elevated noise levels, changing access routes, and other hazards commonly associated with active construction sites.
All employees are required to follow site safety rules, posted signage, access restrictions, and direction from site leadership, safety personnel, and authorized construction management representatives. Employees must remain aware of their surroundings at all times, use designated walkways and approved work areas, and immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, damaged equipment, or potential hazards.
As the dedicated safety coordinator, this role is expected to proactively identify and control hazards, lead pre-task safety planning, develop and reinforce job hazard analysis (JHA) and job safety analysis (JSA) expectations, verify that required controls are in place before work begins, and stop or escalate work when conditions are unsafe or outside approved procedures.
Required Personal Protective Equipment must be worn at all times while operating in designated construction or deployment areas and may include, but is not limited to:
Hard hat
Steel-toed safety boots
High-visibility vest or approved high-visibility clothing
Safety eyewear / eye protection
Work gloves
Hearing protection (as required by area or task)
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Culture
Serve as the primary onsite safety coordinator for assigned shift, site, building, or operational area.
Lead by example as the visible safety standard-bearer, ensuring safety is treated as a non-negotiable operating requirement across all site activities.
Promote and reinforce a culture of hazard awareness, stop-work authority, personal accountability, proactive reporting, and continuous safety improvement.
Serve as the primary safety point of contact for all logistics, deployment, and construction-adjacent team members during assigned operations.
Champion safety communication across shifts, teams, and cross-functional partners.
Hazard Identification & Risk Control
Conduct daily safety walks, field observations, and area inspections to identify hazards, verify controls, and assess compliance with safety requirements.
Proactively identify, document, and communicate workplace hazards including material handling risks, pedestrian-equipment conflicts, housekeeping deficiencies, ergonomic concerns, fall hazards, and changing construction conditions.
Verify that required hazard controls, barriers, signage, and access restrictions are in place before work begins and remain effective throughout operations.
Stop or escalate work immediately when unsafe conditions, unapproved procedures, or uncontrolled hazards are identified.
Partner with site leadership and construction management to assess and mitigate risks associated with changing site conditions, new work scopes, or unfamiliar tasks.
Pre-Task Planning & Job Hazard Analysis
Lead or support pre-task safety reviews, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHA), job safety analyses (JSA), lift/move planning discussions, and daily safety briefings.
Ensure all higher-risk activities have documented hazard assessments and that personnel understand required controls before work begins.
Review and validate task-specific safety plans for material handling, equipment operation, elevated work, hot work adjacency, confined space adjacency, and construction-zone logistics.
Coordinate with construction, operations, and client teams to align logistics safety plans with site permits, restricted areas, and active work zones.
Incident & Near-Miss Management
Document and investigate safety observations, near misses, unsafe conditions, first aid events, and recordable incidents using established reporting systems.
Conduct or support root cause analysis for safety events; identify contributing factors, systemic gaps, and corrective/preventive actions.
Track open safety actions to closure, verify effectiveness of corrective measures, and communicate trends or recurring risks to management.
Maintain accurate and timely safety records, logs, and reports in compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Escalate significant safety concerns, repeat findings, or unresolved risks to management and client safety representatives.
Training, Coaching & Competency
Train, coach, and mentor team members on hazard recognition, stop-work responsibility, proper PPE selection and use, safe material handling, pedestrian and equipment separation, housekeeping standards, and escalation of changing work conditions.
Deliver or coordinate toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, new-hire safety orientations, refresher training, and task-specific safety briefings.
Assess team member safety competency through field observations, coaching conversations, and performance feedback.
Maintain training records and ensure team members are current on required safety certifications, site-specific training, and client-mandated safety modules.
Compliance & Program Support
Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, client safety requirements, site-specific procedures, and company safety policies.
Support safety audits, observation programs, inspection schedules, and management safety reviews.
Monitor and enforce PPE compliance, equipment pre-use inspections, housekeeping standards, and safe work procedures across assigned areas.
Coordinate with site safety, construction, security, facilities, vendors, and client representatives to align work activities with access rules, permit requirements, restricted work areas, and changing construction conditions.
Maintain strong working knowledge of all applicable safety regulations, client standards, work instructions, and site procedures.
Support development and continuous improvement of safety procedures, checklists, JHAs, SOPs, and safety communication materials.
Reporting & Communication
Prepare and deliver shift safety updates, observation summaries, incident reports, trend analyses, corrective action status reports, and safety performance metrics for management.
Communicate safety expectations, lessons learned, alerts, and best practices to team members and cross-functional partners.
Participate in safety committee meetings, client safety calls, construction coordination meetings, and management reviews as assigned.
Identify, document, and recommend process improvements to enhance safety performance, reduce risk, and improve compliance.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in safety coordination, safety leadership, or a hands-on operational role with significant safety responsibilities in logistics, warehouse, construction, data center, or industrial environments.
1+ year of experience in a dedicated safety role, safety coordinator capacity, lead with safety ownership, or equivalent safety-focused position.
Demonstrated ability to lead safety conversations, conduct hazard assessments, recognize and control workplace hazards, and escalate or stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
