Job Summary

Join our friendly eye care team as a Part-Time Optometric Assistant with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position. We're looking for someone who enjoys helping others, provides exceptional customer service, and is eager to learn. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to build a career in healthcare.

As an Optometric Assistant, you'll play an important role in creating a positive patient experience by assisting with both front office responsibilities and clinical support. From greeting patients and scheduling appointments to preparing patients for their eye exams, every day offers variety and opportunities to learn. No prior optometric experience is required, we're happy to train the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Welcome and check in patients with a friendly, professional attitude
Answer and direct incoming phone calls
Schedule appointments and manage the daily patient schedule
Prepare and maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR)
Pre-screen patients before their eye exams
Perform pre-testing and diagnostic testing using specialized optometric equipment (training provided)
Train new contact lens wearers
Verify vision insurance eligibility and benefits
Submit vision insurance claims
Prepare patient paperwork and forms
Collect payments and check patients out
Answer general patient questions and provide exceptional customer service
Assist patients in the optical department as needed
Contact patients regarding appointments and follow-up care
Maintain accurate patient records while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
Perform opening and closing procedures
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming office environment
Complete miscellaneous administrative and clinical tasks to support the practice

Qualifications

Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated
Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills
Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable discussing fees and collecting patient payments
Enjoy working with patients of all ages, from children to seniors
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and accept feedback

Experience

Previous customer service or reception experience required
Medical or optometric office experience preferred but not required
Experience with insurance verification or scheduling is a plus
Typing proficiency of approximately 50 WPM preferred

Schedule

15+ hours per week
Monday through Thursday
2–3 Saturday mornings per month
Opportunity for additional hours and future full-time employment based on performance and office needs
