The staff nurse is accountable to the administrator and is responsible for supervision and care of residents for a 8 hour shift.
1. Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Is an LPN, RN, or has OMT certification.
3. Holds a current Iowa license or certificate.
4. Has completed a physical examination and is free from communicable disease.
5. Is willing and able to work occasional holidays and weekends on designated shift/shifts.

1. Works on a part-time to full-time basis.
2. Assists in admission and orientation of new residents.
3. Supervises and trains nursing assistants in performance of duties.
4. Takes, records, and charts temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and physical assessment observations on a monthly basis.
5. Administers medications according to established unit dose system procedures and physician orders.
6. Evaluates effectiveness of all current medications in producing desired results and charts observations accordingly.
7. Receives change of shift report and gives report to oncoming shift regarding status of all residents.
8. Assists residents with bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and personal hygiene to increase their comfort and well-being.
9. Collects and bags soiled linen
10. Offers night-time back care, assists with oral hygiene, and promotes resident comfort and relaxation.
11. Performs resident “rounds” to assess needs of individual residents.
12. Straighten residents’ rooms, changes bed linen as needed, and assists residents in functioning more
independently.
13. Encourages resident activity and participation in facility events.
14. Encourages resident to meet his/her nutritional and physical fitness needs.
15. ALWAYS relates to residents in a positive way.
16. Contacts nurse supervisor or administrator in case of emergency.
17. Maintains inventory and uses supplies judiciously.
18. Attends inservice programs and staff meetings on a monthly basis.
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Medication Aide
- The medication aide must have good nursing practices which are essential to the well-being of the residents.
- Must complete pre-employment physical and be free of communicable disease.
- Assists the supervisor in the responsibility for total resident care.
- May act as charge person and will perform any and all functions of the charge nurse for which the medication aide has been trained and which are not specifically prohitibted by laws, rules, and regulation under which the facility operates.
- Is willing and able to work holidays and weekends on designation shift(s).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- MUST HAVE COMPLETED AND BE CERTIFIED IN THE 40 HOUR STATE (IOWA) APPROVED MEDICATION AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM. Previous employment as a nursing assistant is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physically and mentally fit.
- Good finger and hand dexterity to handle and manipulate instruments and equipment.
- Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in residents' condition(s).
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases.
- Possibility of minor cuts and/or burns from instruments and equipment.
- Possibitly of strains due to moving residents or injury from irrational residents.
- Potential for sticks from needles or lancets used for blood glucose checks.
- Ability to tolerate heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
