Full Job Description

Reports to: Shop Foreman

Pay Rate: $25-32 per hour dependent upon experience

Position is full-time with benefits as outlined in the Employee Manual

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Wire EDM Operator, this position is a part of the shop team and completes individual Wire EDM operations along the path of a project. Blocks come to the Wire cell and individual operations are completed toward the completion of a Stamping Die or other project. This is not production work, rarely are five pieces of the same detail made – this requires new programs and new fixturing setups daily. This position requires comfort with Mastercam and Mitsubishi Wire EDM controllers as well as an understanding of Tool & Die concepts. This position requires a lot of communication with Toolmakers and the in-house Design Group to assess how fixturing/work holding may be completed on particular blocks as they are completed for a job.

Candidates should have schooling and/or experience in CNC Operation & Machining, CNC Programming (Mastercam) or specifically Wire EDM operation.

Interest in Mastercam programming or specifically Wire EDM operation required

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Critical Responsibilities –

1) Complete Wire EDM cuts for individual blocks along the path of a project

2) Understand Tool & Die terminology and communicate effectively with Toolmakers about requirements of blocks

3) Wire EDM Operators complete their own setups, dialing in parts flat and square before completing an operation

4) Wire EDM Operators will learn to navigate inside of programs such as Solidworks, CADKEY, Mastercam

Other Duties as needed –

1) Wire Operators complete sandblast operations of every block after cutting

2) Wire Operators may be asked to hand grind small feed-in/feed-out marks on the hand grinders

3) Wire Operators are tasked with cleaning and maintaining the machines and the work environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

A Wire EDM Operator must be able to:

1) Speak, read & write English fluently

2) Lift 25 lbs unassisted

3) Remain comfortable working in an industrial environment – the wire department is in a separate climate-controlled area

4) Operate Mastercam and the Mitsubishi Wire EDM controllers to complete operations

5) Have a general understanding of blueprint drawings – instruction will be available

A successful Wire EDM Operator is able to:

1) Analyze incoming blocks and assess fixturing, tooling and programming requirements of that block

2) Communicate effectively with toolmakers about prioritization and fixturing of blocks

3) Manage their time and a Foreman provided job prioritization

4) Develop and apply mechanical/problem-solving skills during job completion

Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
