Service Mobile Equipment Electrical Diagnostics Technician – Crushers & Drill

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Mobile Equipment Electrical Diagnostics Technician to support our quarry operations by diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the electrical and electronic systems on mobile crushing equipment, drill rigs, and heavy support equipment. This position is responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, improving reliability, and ensuring safe, efficient production in a demanding aggregate environment.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults on mobile rock crushers, screening plants, drill rigs, and quarry support equipment.
Troubleshoot engine management systems, CAN bus networks, PLC-controlled machine systems, sensors, wiring harnesses, machine controllers, and communication networks.
Diagnose and repair electrical systems on crushing plants, cone crushers, jaw crushers, impact crushers, conveyors, screening equipment, and hydraulic power units.
Perform advanced diagnostics on surface drill rigs, including drilling control systems, hydraulic control electronics, feed systems, compressor controls, and onboard automation.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, ladder diagrams, OEM service manuals, and diagnostic software outputs.
Utilize OEM diagnostic software and electronic service tools to troubleshoot machine faults, calibrate components, update software, and commission repairs.
Perform root-cause failure analysis and implement permanent corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurring failures.
Install, troubleshoot, and repair production monitoring equipment, lighting, and machine safety systems.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspections on electrical systems, machine controls, and instrumentation.
Assist with machine upgrades, electrical retrofits, automation improvements, and new equipment commissioning.
Ensure all work complies with MSHA regulations, company safety standards, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Maintain accurate repair records, diagnostic reports, and maintenance documentation using the company’s maintenance management system.
Collaborate with maintenance planners, production personnel, and OEM technical support to maximize fleet availability and operational performance.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Industrial Electronics, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of electrical diagnostic experience on mobile crushing equipment, surface drill rigs, mining equipment, or heavy construction machinery.
Experience troubleshooting drill rigs or similar surface drilling equipment preferred.
Strong understanding of diesel engine electronics, CAN bus communication, PLC systems, VFDs, sensors, machine controllers, and electro-hydraulic systems.
Proficient in reading electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and OEM diagnostic documentation.
Skilled in using digital multimeters, insulation resistance testers, oscilloscopes, and OEM diagnostic software.
Ability to safely troubleshoot and repair high-current DC systems and industrial electrical systems in a quarry environment.
MSHA certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Skills

Experience with surface drills and mobile crushing plants.
Experience with machine automation, and telematics.
Knowledge of hydraulic systems and proportional control valves.
Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to work independently in the field.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Ability to climb on mobile crushers, drill rigs, conveyors, and elevated platforms.
Comfortable working in outdoor quarry conditions, including dust, vibration, heat, cold, and uneven terrain.
Ability to respond to emergency breakdowns and work flexible hours during scheduled shutdowns or production-critical repairs.
