1099 Associate Sales Representative – TN & KY Territory

Position: Independent Contractor (1099) – Associate Sales Representative
Territory: Tennessee (TN) & Kentucky (KY)
Industry: Manufacturers’ Representative Group
Compensation: Commission‑based (Small salary + Commissions; contractor structure)
Reports To: Territory Manager / Principal Rep

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated 1099 Associate Sales Representative to support our manufacturers’ representative group across Tennessee and Kentucky. This independent‑contractor role is ideal for a self‑driven individual who excels in relationship‑building, outside sales, and representing high‑quality product lines to dealers, distributors, and end‑users.

As a contractor, you will manage your own schedule, structure your own travel, and operate as a business entity while working closely with our senior representatives to grow the territory.

Key Responsibilities (1099 Contractor Responsibilities Included)Territory Sales & Representation

Represent assigned manufacturers professionally across the TN & KY markets.
Conduct customer visits, product demos, and end‑user training sessions.
Identify new sales opportunities, nurture leads, and grow relationships at all levels.
Support quoting, proposals, and follow‑up communication with dealers and end users.

Independent Contractor Duties (Specific to 1099 Status)

As a 1099 contractor, the Associate Rep is not an employee and is responsible for:

Managing their own business operations, including scheduling, travel planning, and time management.
Providing their own tools for business (vehicle, phone, laptop, insurance, etc.).
Covering their own expenses unless otherwise covered by contract (mileage, hotels, meals, etc.).
Maintaining all required business documentation, including W‑9, business registration (if applicable), and tax records.
Handling all federal, state, and self‑employment taxes, as no taxes are withheld.
Ensuring compliance with all legal guidelines for independent contractors within TN & KY.
Representing multiple product lines without conflict and in accordance with manufacturer agreements.
Acting as a steward of the brands, while operating independently and not as a company employee.

Support & Collaboration

Work with senior reps to learn product lines, sales techniques, competitive differentiators, and territory strategy.
Participate in manufacturer trainings, trade shows, and virtual learning sessions.
Provide consistent reporting: call logs, pipeline updates, opportunity tracking, and territory insights.

Qualifications

Prior outside sales or field‑based experience is a plus, but not required.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Self‑motivated, disciplined, and comfortable operating independently.
Ability to travel extensively across TN and KY, including overnight trips.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
Familiarity with public safety, fleet, automotive, industrial, or related markets is beneficial.

Compensation & Structure

Commission‑only 1099 contractor role (small base salary + commission, no benefits, or tax withholding).
Unlimited earning potential based on performance.
Possible access to demo equipment and marketing resources depending on manufacturer guidelines
