Full Job Description

Rost, Inc is an employee-owned and diversified company with divisions in retail and wholesale, landscape installation and maintenance, nursery operations, and irrigation. We are seeking a Retail Manager who will play a vital role in managing all retail staff, overseeing day-to-day garden center operations, and thinking futuristically to enhance the retail division. This position is hourly with bonus opportunities and a full benefits package - pay is based on experience. If you have retail expertise, an eye for detail, and the ability to motivate and grow a great team, we would love to speak with you!

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for seasonal retail staff, including hiring, scheduling, training, and coaching
Collaborate with Marketing Specialist to create marketing plans and design signage, providing plant information, posting timelines, and creating promotions within Constant Contact and social media
Spearhead all garden center merchandising to create an attractive and well-maintained retail space, including staging, seasonal designs and displays, developing specials or featured items, etc.
Manage inventory management and ordering of all tropicals, pottery, fertilizer, and other materials
Serve as the point person for retail staff and customers for advanced questions on hardgoods, specialized plant questions, and any other retail needs
Provide excellent customer service and ensure all staff are doing the same, managing any escalated customer complaints or issues as they arise
Think futuristically about the needs and potential of the retail division, developing additional revenue streams and programs, increasing sales opportunities, and staying on the cutting edge of the industry, and looking ahead for future opportunities
Collaborate and communicate with rewholesale, maintenance, and growhouse divisions to forecast future needs, allocate plant materials and labor appropriately, and work together cohesively
Manage inventory carefully and accurately, including ordering, performing regular inventory counts, tracking sales to determine demand for each item, and reporting all inventory loss
Create and implement standard operating procedures, collaborating with Green Operations Manager to continuously improve processes relating to sales, safety, customer service, and overall operations
Create and manage an annual task calendar for the retail division, planning out seasonal tasks, marketing needs, and all other processes to ensure timely completion of tasks
Enforce all company policies and procedures, including safety, customer service, and plant care
Ensure all retail equipment and facilities are fully functional, reporting any maintenance needs
Build long-term relationships with clients to encourage repeat business

Qualifications:

Minimum of three years in retail required
Bachelor’s degree in business, horticulture or related program preferred
Plant knowledge strongly preferred
Previous management experience or a proven track record of leadership required
Must be detail-oriented and creative with an eye for design
Available to work Saturdays during the busy seasons and rotate for weekend watering schedules
Must be comfortable working outside in various weather conditions
Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time, and lift up to 25 pounds

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
