Experience Levels

Machinist I: 0–3 yrs | Machinist II: 3+ yrs

Permco is hiring Machinists at levels I and II, to produce high-tolerance hydraulic pump components in our ISO 9001 certified Streetsboro, OH manufacturing facility. This is a single career path: Machinist I is a ground-floor opportunity for candidates early in their career, with comprehensive paid on-the-job training; Machinist II is for self-directed machinists who can meet production standards with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities — All Levels

Ability to Set up and operate machines including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, Blanchard grinders, HCN loaders ect. at a level appropriate to experience.
Measure finished parts using precision instruments — calipers, micrometers, bore gauges — verifying dimensions against print specifications.
Perform pre-operation checks: inspect machines, confirm coolant/fluid levels, and verify alignment prior to running.
Maintain accurate production logs, in-process inspection records, and tool change/maintenance documentation every shift.
Follow all safety rules, wear required PPE, and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Adhere to Permco's ISO 9001 processes and quality procedures.

Machinist I — Additional Responsibilities

Learn to load and unload parts, make basic machine adjustments, and follow established setup procedures under supervision.
Participate actively in training programs and cross-training across multiple machine stations.
Read simple blueprints or engineering drawings with guidance; training provided.

Machinist II — Additional Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes with minimal supervision.
Select and install appropriate cutting tools and inserts; manage tool life and perform tool changes per SOP.
Read, interpret, and machine to blueprints and engineering drawings, holding tight dimensional tolerances throughout production runs.
Collaborate with maintenance technicians and fellow machinists to resolve routine production problems.

Qualifications & Skills

Machinist I

High school diploma or equivalent required.
0–3 years of machine operation or manufacturing experience (vocational/trade school coursework considered).
Basic mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in learning precision machining.
Ability to read simple blueprints or engineering drawings — training will be provided.
Strong attention to detail, reliable attendance, and a strong work ethic.
Basic math skills required; ability to use measuring tools is a plus.

Machinist II

3+ years of hands-on machining experience required, with demonstrated proficiency on mills and lathes.
Strong understanding of machining principles: cutting speeds, feeds, tool path, offsets, and tooling selection.
Proficiency with CNC controls (Fanuc, Mazatrol, or equivalent) and conventional machine operation.
Expertise with precision measuring instruments: micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM basics.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills — able to diagnose and resolve machine or quality issues quickly.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive hand/arm motions.
Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and shop fluids.
Attention to detail and consistent commitment to workplace safety.
