Lead the design and management of complex, high-end custom homes while helping grow a strong and established residential practice within a collaborative structural engineering firm.
At Ehlert Bryan, our single-family residential work includes architecturally significant custom homes, major renovations, additions, and specialty residential structures across the United States. Our projects are often large, technically challenging, highly detailed, and closely coordinated with talented architects and contractors.
We are looking for a Structural Project Manager with at least 5 years of experience who is interested in focusing on high-end single-family residential design as a long-term area of practice. This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, client interaction, project leadership, and the unique challenges of custom residential work.
You will have the opportunity to oversee the work of a small team and remain actively involved in structural design. You will work directly with firm principals while helping maintain the quality, responsiveness, and practical problem-solving that our clients expect.
This is a strong growth opportunity. We have a steady backlog of residential work and are looking for someone who can help lead and continue developing this part of our practice. For the right person, this role offers a path toward becoming a senior leader in the firm focused on high-end residential design, client relationships, team development, and long-term growth of the residential sector.
What You’ll Do
· Manage structural design projects for high-end custom single-family homes, major renovations, additions, and specialty residential structures
· Lead coordination with architects and contractors throughout design and construction
· Oversee the work of a small team of engineers and designers, including delegation, technical review, mentoring, and day-to-day project guidance
· Remain actively involved in structural design and technical decision-making for wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation systems
· Develop practical, creative structural solutions for complex architectural designs, challenging site conditions, and unique project requirements
· Review and guide the preparation of structural drawings, details, calculations, and specifications
· Help maintain high standards for document quality, coordination, responsiveness, and technical accuracy
· Manage project schedules, budgets, staffing needs, and client expectations
· Perform site visits to observe existing conditions, review construction progress, and help resolve field issues
· Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and provide construction-phase support
· Build and maintain strong relationships with architects, contractors, clients, and internal team members
· Contribute to the continued growth, organization, and leadership of EB’s single-family residential practice

- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is a plus
- PE or SE license is a plus
- 5 or more years of consulting structural engineering experience
- Strong fundamentals in structural analysis and design
- Experience with wood-framed construction, with working knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation systems
- Ability to oversee and mentor a small team while remaining actively involved in technical design
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards for quality, responsiveness, and coordination
- Clear communication skills and attention to detail
- Interest in specializing in high-end custom residential design and growing into a leadership role within this practice area
