About us

The Root Cellar Cafe and Catering is an independently owned restaurant, catering company, bakery and cafe serving scratch-made comfort food, locally roasted coffee and decadent desserts daily.

Catering Assistant Needed

Responsible, detail-oriented and experienced catering assistant with the ability to work for a high-volume café and catering company adjacent to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill needed. This is your chance to join an independently owned company that has been a staple in a major college town for nearly 30 years. Major plus – you’ll become part of a full team with staff members who know how to work hard and have fun.

Duties and Skills

Work as the catering director’s right hand, helping to assist with various catering activities, including meeting with clients and taking orders in person and by phone, preparing prep sheets for the kitchen catering staff, managing multiple catering platforms and programs and working to recruit new accounts to continue to grow the Root Cellar’s catering business. Must be comfortable and confident serving as a representative of a business in a highly competitive catering market. Knowledge of Caterease or similar catering point-of-sale platform a plus.

· Serve as a delivery driver for the company, with a physical ability to safely load, transport, unload, and set up catering orders for delivery.

· Assist with the Root Cellar’s prepared meal program, including packing bags, corresponding with customers and handling pick-ups on Mondays

· Prep catering items as needed for next day pick-up or delivery, including making labels, boxed lunches, coffee boxes, gallon drinks, etc.

· Responsible for managing maintenance of the catering van, including ensuring the van has scheduled appointments for regular service (oil changes, tire rotations) and ensuring that it is filled with gas.

· Maintain catering inventory for paper goods.

· Occasionally assist Root Cellar staff with front of the house responsibilities.
