About the Role

At Next Day Dumpsters, we’re looking for an HR Manager who’s excited to be our first dedicated HR hire, responsible for both building and executing our HR function as the company continues to grow.

In this role, you will balance thoughtfully building out the foundations for a scalable HR function while also owning the day-to-day execution. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role. While you’ll own the HR function, you won’t be managing an HR team.

As an HR Manager, you’ll handle a little bit of everything, including:

Recruiting – Build and execute a robust recruiting process that helps us attract strong candidates.
Onboarding – Create an onboarding process that engages new hires from post-offer to day one and beyond.
HR Foundations – Create, improve, prioritize, and roll out policies and practices in a way that fits the business stage and workforce.
Culture & Employee Experience – Partner with leaders to ensure our values are clear, communicated, and lived throughout the organization.
Ongoing HR Initiatives – Conduct annual handbook audits and improvements, implement and execute performance management programs, and more.
Employee Relations – Support managers in handling employee relations situations fairly and within industry best practices.
Payroll & Benefits – Strategically elevate our employee benefit offerings, manage benefits renewal, and support payroll as needed. In this role, you will not be responsible for running or managing payroll.

We operate in four states plus DC, with plans for further growth, and have both office and field workers. As such, our needs across these areas are complex and require thoughtful solutions to the employee experience from recruiting through ongoing culture initiatives.

Success in this role will mean creating the foundations for scalable HR while also owning the day-to-day execution, all while using judgment and EQ to know when to push, when to pilot solutions, and when to be patient while building trust and credibility across the organization.

Who You Are

4–7 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a small or growing company and with experience operating as a standalone HR or lead HR resource.
Comfortable independently owning multiple HR functions – recruiting, compliance, onboarding, and policies
Familiar with AI tools that can benefit this position
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to balance tactical work with forward thinking
Self-starter that is energized by building from scratch
Comfortable operating in environments where not everything is fully built yet
Able to prioritize and push progress over perfection
High emotional intelligence – able to connect with everyone from field employees to senior leadership
SHRM or PHR certification preferred

This role is based in Raleigh, NC. It is expected to be a hybrid position, with the right office cadence to be determined during interviewing and onboarding. We are currently establishing our Raleigh office - growing from our base in Maryland - and you’ll be a part of getting our team and culture started in Raleigh.

This position will require travel to the Maryland headquarters to facilitate relationship building, roll out your work, and to partner with leadership. The travel cadence will be established as you onboard into the role, and we currently expect it will be ~6 trips per year (every other month). You’ll report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, who is also located in Raleigh, and will work closely with leaders across the business.
