Café Manager
Market Pavilion Hotel is seeking Café Manager for our new sweet and savory coffee, grab and go shop named Cafe Pavilion. Located on Market Street at the Market Pavilion Hotel, all of our pastries, artisan breads, baked goods, desserts and savory food items are hand-crafted from by our Market Pavilion Hotel and Grill 225 culinary team.

POSITION DETAILS:

- Our ideal applicants will possess at least 1 year’s experience, as a manager or leader in a café, bakery, gourmet store, restaurant, club / resort or similar environment. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that staff members provide outstanding customer service to our guests.
CAFÉ MANAGER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:
- Oversee and train barista staff members with properly conducting food and beverage counter sales.
- Oversee and train Representatives to conduct Point of Sale monetary transactions, collect and process payments from customers including: cash, digital payments, and credit cards. The ideal candidate must have good money handling skills and must be able to count money back to the guest when providing change.
- Oversee and train Representatives to consistently dispense coffee, specialty coffee and tea beverages according to company standards.
- Oversee representatives with the proper handling food products, which comprise 90% of the sales transactions throughout the day.
- Oversee Representatives with proper portioning and serving of Italian gelatos as selected by the guest.
- Oversee and train Representatives with proper methods for heating selected food items in our special super-heat quick-oven as required before serving or upon request by the guest.
- Oversee Representatives with handling, cutting and packaging food items when necessary at time of the purchase by the guest.
- Ensure all staff members are practicing safe food handling procedures in accordance with S.C. DEHC regulations.
- Oversee and maintain the retail merchandising portion of the store with respect to food and beverage restocking, organizing and arranging throughout the day.
- The Café Manager will be responsible for ensuring all display foods are merchandised attractively and are presented to company standards throughout the day.
- Manage, schedule and oversee a staff of 8-12 staff members.
To receive consideration for this position the Café Manager must be able to perform the following essential physical job functions daily:
- Must have the physical ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.
- Must have the physical ability to frequently crouch, push, pull, squat and work above the shoulders during the performance of the daily job routine.
- Must have the physical ability to use both hands for continuous firm grasping with both hands for ice cream scooping, handling cutting tools, tongs, cutting boards, spoons, etc.
- Must have the ability to comfortably use a cutting knife to slice sandwiches and baguette rolls.
- Must have the physical ability to continuously carry up to 20-30 pounds of weight both on flat surfaces as well as up and down stairs for distances of up to 100 feet.
- Must have the physical ability to occasionally lift up to 20-30 pounds of weight between the floor and waist, occasionally from the waist to above the shoulder. This weight will be comprised, but not limited to the following items: bulk food, beverage cases, cleaning and paper supplies, etc.
- Must have the physical ability to occasionally push and pull various items such as bulk food, paper and cleaning supplies, cases of bottled beverages, trash bags and containers, weighing up to 30 pounds distances up to 150 feet.
- Must have the physical ability to work at heights and on uneven surfaces frequently.
- Must have the physical ability to tolerate any required protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses and other protective equipment deemed appropriate on a continuous basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Recipients of this position will be guest services driven, detail oriented, warm and friendly. Must have the sincere desire to serve and please our guests along with an attention to adhere to meticulous operational structure and detail.
- Recipients of this position must have an established work record, with the demonstrated ability to have held a position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year.
- Recipient must have the discipline to accept detailed structures, protocols and procedures that are utilized by the company to ensure consistent and quality associated guest interactions.
- Must have at least 2 year’s experience with supervising a staff of at least 8 people, as an assistant manager or supervisor, in restaurant or similar hospitality environment.
- The Individual will be required to perform all functions of their job to a Next-Level and high luxury standard. The recipient will be extensively trained and will be required to follow the company's defined written documentation and interactive conversational procedures to ensure that we are professionally exceeding the expectations of our guests.
- Must have an excellent aptitude and willingness to efficiently utilize operational software that provides the framework for our company.
OPERATIONAL SKILLS:
- Must be extremely guest service oriented with an outgoing personality and willingness to cultivate positive customer relationships.
- Must be a confident individual with the ability to hold staff members accountable for executing their duties according to company policy and standards. Must be willing to use evaluation and discipline procedures where appropriate.
- Must have a teaching and mentoring philosophy with the understanding that spending positive time with each and every staff member is essential to creating a successful business.
- Must have the personal goal of continuous personal and operational improvement to perpetuate and stimulate operating efficiencies and company growth.
- The applicant must have excellent computer skills with the ability to manage online café sales and inventory control.
SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY:
- The ideal candidate will have good schedule flexibility with minimal schedule restrictions.
- Hours vary from morning to evening. Full-time applicants with wide-ranging schedule flexibility will be given first consideration for this position.
- The individual must have the ability to work holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year’s Eve.
- This position will require an average workweek of 50-55 hours.
COMPENSATION:
- Pay ranges between $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year based on the candidate’s level of previous experience. Pay may be based by the hourly rate or by a weekly salary, to be determined.
- Monthly Bonus Incentives are also provided with this management position.
- Meals are provided at no charge to the recipient with this position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING PROCESS
- Pre-employment drug testing is a definite reality in our company, and is a mandatory requirement for all eligible candidates. Contingent upon the candidate’s ability to advance beyond the interviewing and background screening process, eligible employees will then be instructed to report to our company’s designated drug testing facility in person. An eligible candidate who successfully passes the drug screening test at our approved testing facility will then be provided a Passing Certificate of Documentation. This Passing Certificate of Documentation on record will be required before the candidate is potentially offered a final position within our company. This Accounting manager position is an employment contract position, which may require a minimum length of service for 2 years with our company.
