Job Purpose:

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist at Recovery Point West Virginia is dedicated to providing non-clinical support and guidance to individuals in recovery from substance use disorders. The role involves leveraging personal recovery experiences to offer hope, motivation, and advocacy, while fostering a supportive community environment that encourages long-term recovery and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide peer-based recovery support to individuals, utilizing personal recovery experiences to inspire and motivate.
Facilitate group sessions and one-on-one meetings to discuss recovery goals, challenges, and strategies.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, counselors, and social workers to develop comprehensive recovery plans.
Assist clients in navigating community resources, including housing, employment, and healthcare services.
Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within various systems and institutions.
Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay informed about best practices in peer recovery support.
Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness about recovery resources and support services available through Recovery Point West Virginia.

Required Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification in Peer Recovery Support or a related field is preferred.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of personal experience in recovery from substance use disorder.
Experience working in a peer support or recovery-focused setting is desirable.
Familiarity with community resources and recovery support services.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate individuals in recovery.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and establish professional boundaries.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external partners.
Proficiency in basic computer applications, including email and Microsoft Office suite.
Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to supporting individuals in recovery.
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
