Job Summary
EBC is hiring a dependable, safety-focused Lead Driver / Driver Operations Supervisor to support our Charlotte transportation operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can safely complete driving assignments while supervising and supporting a team of drivers.
The Lead Driver will coordinate daily routes, monitor attendance and performance, train new drivers, inspect vehicles, resolve delivery or service issues, and communicate operational updates to management. The right candidate is organized, calm under pressure, comfortable holding team members accountable, and willing to step in wherever needed to keep operations running safely and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the daily activities of drivers assigned to the Charlotte market.
- Assign routes, vehicles, schedules, and daily work priorities.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate safety expectations, route changes, service requirements, and operational updates.
- Complete driving, delivery, pickup, repositioning, or other transportation assignments as needed.
- Monitor driver attendance, punctuality, route progress, productivity, and customer-service performance.
- Train and onboard new drivers on company procedures, vehicle operation, safety practices, documentation, and customer expectations.
- Coach drivers and address performance or conduct concerns in coordination with company management.
- Perform and verify pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Confirm that vehicles are clean, properly equipped, fueled or charged, and ready for service.
- Report vehicle damage, warning lights, maintenance needs, accidents, citations, and safety concerns immediately.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and service appointments as directed.
- Respond to route delays, callouts, customer concerns, vehicle problems, and other daily operational issues.
- Maintain accurate records, including mileage, inspection reports, incident reports, schedules, route documentation, and driver performance notes.
- Help protect company vehicles, keys, fuel cards, devices, documents, and other assigned property.
- Review accidents, complaints, and service failures and assist management with corrective-action plans.
- Ensure drivers follow company policies, traffic laws, parking rules, insurance requirements, and safe-driving standards.
- Provide regular updates and performance reports to EBC management.
- Support recruiting, interviewing, scheduling, and staffing activities as requested.
- Perform other transportation and operations duties based on business needs.
Management Responsibilities
This position has day-to-day leadership responsibility for the Charlotte driver team. Responsibilities may include:
- Scheduling and dispatching drivers.
- Drive along with the Driver during training and onboarding.
- Training and onboarding employees.
- Monitoring attendance and approving routine schedule adjustments.
- Providing coaching and documenting performance concerns.
- Conducting safety observations and reviewing driver performance.
- Recommending recognition, additional training, corrective action, or staffing changes.
- Escalating serious safety, conduct, customer, or vehicle issues to senior management.
Final hiring, termination, compensation, and formal disciplinary decisions will remain with authorized EBC management unless otherwise assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Ability to meet EBC’s vehicle-insurance and driver-eligibility requirements.
- At least [2–3] years of professional driving, delivery, transportation, fleet, or field-operations experience.
- At least [1] year of team-lead, supervisor, dispatcher, or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of safe-driving practices and vehicle-inspection procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple drivers, routes, vehicles, and priorities at the same time.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to respond to operational issues.
- Strong communication, coaching, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use navigation applications, smartphones, email, spreadsheets, and scheduling or dispatch systems.
- Ability to complete reports accurately and communicate professionally with employees, customers, vendors, and management.
- Ability to pass all job-related background, motor vehicle record, and substance-screening requirements permitted by law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising delivery drivers, couriers, shuttle drivers, fleet drivers, or last-mile transportation teams.
- Experience with route planning, dispatching, fleet maintenance, or transportation compliance.
- Experience reviewing telematics, GPS, mileage, fuel, or driver-safety data.
- Familiarity with the Charlotte and surrounding regional road network.
- CPR, first-aid, defensive-driving, or fleet-safety training.
- Commercial driver’s license, only if required for the vehicles assigned to this position.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Ability to bend, reach, walk, and perform routine vehicle inspections.

Salary: Negotiable We offer a fixed salary with the following employment options:
- 1099 Independent Contractor – Weekly Pay
- W-2 Employee – Bi-Weekly Pay
