SUMMARY (2nd Shift 2:30pm - 10:30pm)
The Class A Driver – Material Handler is responsible for handling, storing, staging, and transporting finished goods and materials to support plant operations and customer requirements. This position safely operates Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, box trucks, and switcher (yard jockey) trucks. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory accuracy, completing required documentation, and recording transactions using company inventory systems and technology. The position supports warehouse operations, internal yard movements, and local deliveries while ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and transportation regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include, but are not limited to:

Order Fulfillment and Warehouse Operations
- Review outbound orders following established procedures, including:
- GMP requirements
- Safety procedures
- Temperature monitoring (refrigerated products)
- Documentation maintenance
- Product identification
- Storage practices
- Prepare orders for shipment using picking sheets and RF technology.
- Stage orders in designated areas and ensure proper pallet identification.
- Rotate inventory utilizing FIFO methodology.
- Load and unload trailers and trucks.
- Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and organization of warehouses, coolers, freezers, yards, and storage areas.
- Participate in physical inventories and cycle counts.
Transportation and Delivery Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Perform local deliveries and pickups using tractor-trailers and company box trucks.
- Deliver products to various locations according to established schedules.
- Pick up materials and supplies as required.
- Ensure Bills of Lading, packing slips, and other shipping documents are complete and accurate before departure.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report vehicle defects promptly.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company transportation policies.
Yard and Switcher Operations
- Operate switcher (yard jockey) trucks to move trailers between docks, parking areas, and designated yard locations.
- Verify trailer numbers and locations to ensure proper trailer placement.
- Inspect trailers prior to movement and report any safety or maintenance concerns.
- Coordinate trailer movements with warehouse and production teams to support operational efficiency.
- Maintain safe yard traffic practices and adherence to site speed limits.
Equipment Operation
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and other powered industrial equipment safely.
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report deficiencies.
- Maintain training certifications for powered industrial equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support warehouse and production operations as needed.
- Assist with inventory accuracy initiatives.
- Participate in company physical inventories.
- Management retains the discretion to add or modify duties as business needs require.
QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this position, individuals must possess:
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- A clean motor vehicle record and the ability to meet company insurability requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOT medical certification.
- Ability to operate forklifts and powered industrial equipment safely.
- Ability to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Three to five years of warehouse, transportation, or distribution experience preferred.
- Experience with RF systems and inventory transactions preferred.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers, box trucks, and switcher trucks preferred.
- Food manufacturing or refrigerated warehouse experience preferred.
FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY
This position is responsible for following company policies, procedures, and work instructions to ensure the production, storage, and distribution of safe, quality food products. Employees are responsible for notifying management of any conditions that may impact product safety or quality.
LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL, AND COMPUTER SKILLS
The employee must be able to:
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations and unit conversions.
- Use inventory systems and RF scanning technology.
- Become proficient in ERP and warehouse management systems utilized by Greencore USA.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Current DOT Medical Card.
- Powered Industrial Equipment Certification (forklift, pallet jack, etc.).
- Training in allergen control, hazardous material handling, and FIFO inventory practices.
- Any additional transportation certifications required by federal, state, or local regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to:
- Sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
- Push and pull loads using mechanical devices.
- Enter and exit commercial vehicles multiple times throughout the shift.
- Operate warehouse equipment and perform repetitive motions.
- Possess close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision necessary for safe vehicle and equipment operation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees are regularly required to work independently and with others. Work environments include:
- Warehouse, cooler, freezer, yard, and dock areas.
- Temperatures ranging from below 0°F to 85°F.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Exposure to moving equipment and varying weather conditions while performing yard and delivery activities.
- Extended work hours and overtime as needed.
