Full Job Description

Are you looking for a career that blends your love of the outdoors with meaningful environmental impact? PRF is actively hiring Contract Foresters to support utility vegetation management (UVM) and tree risk assessment across our service territory. In this role you’ll work outdoors, directly improving public safety, service reliability, and community resilience — assessing vegetation, planning and scoping work, and ensuring the work performed meets standard.

What You’ll Do

Perform field-based forestry work along utility rights-of-way
Identify, mark, and document hazard trees and vegetation threats to safe, reliable electric service, and develop action plans to mitigate them
Provide work planning and work scoping services — ground patrol, reactive work, project estimating, tree inventories, and contractor equipment evaluations
Review and interpret scopes of work to determine vegetation management requirements, including for capital construction projects
Plan, schedule, and permit VM activities across multiple work orders and geographic areas
Coordinate with utility Vegetation Management Program Managers, project managers, engineers, construction managers, contractors, and field coordinators
Notify and communicate with affected property owners and customers regarding planned VM activities, and resolve concerns professionally (including landowner negotiations)
Secure required permissions and maintain proper documentation prior to work execution
Assign and track work orders within utility systems such as Maximo / FMA
Conduct productivity, safety, and quality assurance / quality control assessments of suppliers performing VM work
Use GIS, GPS units, iPads, and mobile software to collect and manage field data
Maintain all required paperwork, receipts, mileage logs, and activity sheets, submitting them on time
Participate in safety classes and on-the-job performance evaluations

What You’ll Need

Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license
Associate degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred), or equivalent field experience
Experience in forestry, vegetation management, or utility arboriculture
Familiarity with GIS mapping, GPS devices, and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritize across a large geographic area
Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with contractors while enforcing quality and safety standards

Preferred Certifications (Boosts Pay)

Increased wages are negotiated for candidates holding specialized licenses or certifications, including:

ISA Certified Arborist
ISA Utility Specialist
NC Registered Forester
TRAQ, CTSP, or other forestry-related credentials
