Full Job Description

General Function

Provide for students essential learning support services and serve as an individual mentor to students; monitor the progress of students and provide the encouragement and support necessary to enable students to complete their course of study at Central Piedmont.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of students and provide individual coaching on issues related to academic success, career preparation, transfer planning, financial literacy, and goal setting.
Assists students in developing an educational success plan and strategy to improve student success.
Monitors student progress by utilizing available technology and tracking systems.
Develops fliers, program-specific newsletter and other visual aids that are designed to keep students informed and help them navigate through the college system.
Communicates important and timely information to students via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings; responds to students requests in a timely manner.
Meets individually and in small groups with students as needed.
Provides individual and/or group coaching on issues related to academic and student success.
Assists with the development and implementation of initiatives relating to student success as well early intervention and retention programs for underrepresented students at the college.
Coordinates and organizes activities and resources for underrepresented students with students, staff, faculty, department chairs, program coordinators, and deans.
Works with the various Student Services Development Offices to identify and recommend appropriate services designed to address student needs.
Works with the Director on grant related activities and reports by compiling information on program services, activities, and students. Maintains accurate, organized, completed, and detailed records and develops and maintains reports as required or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Human Resources, Social Services, Adult Education or related. Applicants must possess a current driver’s license and the ability to provide their own transportation to meet with students in various college locations throughout the service region, as necessary, to perform job responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in higher education desired, with preference given to community college experience
Work experience in counseling or academic coaching
Experience and evidence of commitment to the philosophy of the community college, student success, and academic excellence, and
Evidence of commitment to multi-cultural and multi-generational diversity

Working Days: Monday - Friday

Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students
Ability to develop individualized academic plans with students that will lead to program completion
Academic and career counseling skills
Effective problem-solving skills
Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success
Ability to work with students with identified risk factors for academic success
Ability to work with college faculty and staff in support of student success
Strong communication skills
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and social media
Strong presentation and facilitation skills
