About Mt. Mitchell Foods

Mt. Mitchell Foods is a rapidly growing contract manufacturer specializing in dried fruit snacks, dietary supplements, gummies, stick packs, bottling, and fulfillment. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Food Safety & SQF Manager to lead our Food Safety Management System and ensure our facility remains audit-ready every day.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maintaining SQF certification, ensuring FDA compliance, leading customer and regulatory audits, and continuously improving our food safety systems. You’ll work closely with Operations and Production to build a culture where food safety and quality are integrated into everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the site’s SQF Practitioner and primary owner of the SQF Food Safety Management System.
Maintain and continuously improve our SQF certification program.
Lead all SQF, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits from preparation through successful completion and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, including 21 CFR Part 111 and 21 CFR Part 117.
Develop, implement, and maintain HACCP, Preventive Controls, GMP, sanitation, allergen control, environmental monitoring, food defense, food fraud, and recall programs.
Lead internal audits and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) are implemented and sustained.
Develop, maintain, and control all food safety documentation, procedures, records, and verification activities.
Oversee supplier approval, supplier verification, and raw material quality programs.
Manage traceability exercises, mock recalls, customer complaints, investigations, and root cause analysis.
Partner with Production, Operations, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to continuously improve food safety and quality throughout the facility.
Lead employee training on food safety, GMPs, HACCP, SQF, and quality systems.
Supervise and develop the Quality Assurance team while fostering a proactive food safety culture.
Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to ensure ongoing compliance.

Qualifications

HACCP Certification required.
PCQI Certification required or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Minimum five years of experience managing food safety or quality systems in food, dietary supplement, or beverage manufacturing.
Experience serving as an SQF Practitioner or leading an SQF-certified facility strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, including 21 CFR Part 111 and 21 CFR Part 117.
Experience leading successful third-party, customer, and regulatory audits.
Strong understanding of CAPA systems, supplier quality, allergen control, environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and labeling compliance.
Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
