- Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
- Beds: 20
- Unit broken into two sides that mirror one another with 10 beds on each side. Nurses station is centralized in the middle, with the most critical patients being placed behind the nurses station
Required Experience: 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar facility for acuity

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Very high acuity patient population – ages 0-18 years old
- Patients with congenital heart differences that have undergone surgery, medical management of pre-transplant and post-transplant, s/p cath lab, ventricular assistive devices, ECMO, Impella, Dialysis, Aquadex (Renal Replacement Therapy)
Patient Ratios:
- RN: Varies on acuity: 2:1, 1:1, 1:2
- CNA: none - 1 NA per day to support unit secretary duties and nursing support needs throughout the shift
Required Licensure & Certifications:
Skills required:
- Experience with fresh open heart post op patients; transplant experience, experience with the following devices: Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, ECMO
- EPIC experience
- Ability/Competency to float to PICU – discussed during interview
Support within the Department:
- CNA: Duties: 1 Health Care tech per day to support unit secretary duties and nursing support needs throughout the shift (runners, bathing, etc.)
- Unit Secretary every shift
- Charge nurse – free floating
- Phlebotomy – in house but not utilized as majority of patients will have central lines
- IV/VAT Team: Yes
- Resource Nurse – free floating
- RT, 24/7
- Cardiologist, 24/7
- Intensivist, 24/7
- Telemetry monitoring Tech: No
- Centralized and bedside monitoring
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC - required
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Phillips
Floating: If yes, where: Yes - PICU, NICU, Gen Peds – will float as needed
Orientation (facility and unit):
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend or fewer as needed – Fri/Sat/Sun
- Call requirement: Yes, based on previous date
- Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays, Unit requirement is every other holiday
- RTO: Manager approval
- Shift times: 0645 – 1845, 1845 - 0645
- Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
