Optometric Technician / Patient Care Coordinator

Front Desk and Clinical Technician Role

Drs. Bare, Basic & Rohm Optometrists is seeking a friendly, professional, detail-oriented person to join our busy Charlottesville optometry practice as an Optometric Technician / Patient Care Coordinator.

This is a hybrid position that includes both front desk administrative responsibilities and hands-on clinical technician work. The right candidate will be comfortable helping patients throughout their visit, from check-in and scheduling to preliminary testing and assisting with patient flow.

This position may be a strong fit for someone with experience in optometry, ophthalmology, medical office work, medical assisting, healthcare administration, customer service, or hands-on patient care.

About Our Office

Drs. Bare, Basic & Rohm Optometrists is a busy, well-established eye care practice located in Barracks Road Shopping Center in Charlottesville, VA. Our office provides comprehensive eye exams, contact lens care, medical eye care, and advanced dry eye services.

Our office has been recognized in Best of C-VILLE from 2021–2025, and we are known for friendly, thorough, patient-centered care.

About the Role

This role is an important part of both the front desk and clinical team. Some days may be more focused on check-in, phones, scheduling, insurance, and administrative support. Other days may involve more direct technician work, preliminary testing, patient history, and assisting doctors with patient flow.

We are looking for someone who can stay organized, communicate well, work efficiently in a fast-paced office, and make patients feel welcome and cared for.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

Welcoming patients in person and over the phone
Checking patients in and out for appointments
Scheduling appointments for multiple doctors
Verifying insurance information and updating patient records
Processing payments
Answering phones and responding to patient questions
Reviewing patient history, symptoms, medications, and concerns
Performing preliminary testing with optometric equipment
Preparing patients for comprehensive eye examinations
Documenting clearly in the electronic health record
Assisting doctors with patient flow
Teaching new contact lens wearers insertion, removal, and lens care
Helping coordinate referrals, records, forms, and correspondence
Maintaining clean, organized exam rooms, testing areas, and front desk spaces
Supporting other office tasks as needed

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Strong communication skills
Professional and compassionate attitude
Comfortable working directly with patients
Comfortable using computers, email, and office software
Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Reliable transportation to Charlottesville, VA 22903

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required:

Optometry or ophthalmology
Medical office or healthcare setting
Medical assisting
Front desk or administrative healthcare work
Insurance verification or billing support
Patient scheduling
Customer service
Contact lens or optical experience
Electronic health records

Schedule

Full-time position.

Office hours are:

Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
Rotating Saturdays required
