Human Resources Manager
Charlottesville, VA | On-Site Leadership Role | Hybrid Flexibility
Carter Myers Automotive (CMA) is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support a workforce of approximately 1,248 employees across a growing, employee-owned organization. This leadership role partners with business leaders to drive employee relations, compliance, performance management, HR operations, talent acquisition, and workforce initiatives. The HR Manager will lead a team of six HR and Recruiting professionals, including oversight of a Payroll Team of three, ensuring the effective delivery of HR, recruiting, and payroll services while fostering a positive employee experience and supporting organizational growth.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $115,000 - $155,000 annually
Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, certifications, and leadership experience.

Location & Work Schedule

Based in Charlottesville, VA

Full-time, Monday-Friday (typically 8:00 AM-5:00 PM)

Primarily based at CMA's corporate office with periodic travel to dealership locations

Strong on-site presence is expected to effectively support employees, leaders, and business operations

Requirements:
Key Responsibilities
-
Partner with business leaders to develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and workforce needs.
-
Lead and develop a team of six HR, Recruiting, and Payroll professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and managers on employee relations, performance management, coaching, and workplace concerns.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as company policies and practices.

Oversee talent acquisition strategies, recruiting operations, onboarding programs, and workforce planning initiatives.

Direct HR operations, including policy administration, employee records, leave management, and HR programs.

Provide oversight and support for payroll operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.

Leverage Paylocity and other HR technology platforms to optimize processes, reporting, and the employee experience.

Analyze HR metrics and workforce trends to identify opportunities and support data-driven decision-making.

Lead employee engagement, retention, recognition, and organizational development initiatives.

Support training, leadership development, and succession planning efforts across the organization.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, compliance, and employee satisfaction.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.

3+ years of people leadership experience, including managing HR, Recruiting, and/or Payroll teams.

Strong knowledge of employee relations, performance management, employment law, and HR compliance.

Experience overseeing HR operations for a multi-location organization.

Experience using HRIS platforms; Paylocity experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to coach leaders, influence decision-making, and build strong working relationships.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.

Experience leading Talent Acquisition or Recruiting functions.

Experience overseeing payroll operations and partnering closely with payroll teams.

Multi-state employment law and compliance experience.

Experience supporting organizations with 1,000+ employees.

Experience with change management, employee engagement, and organizational development initiatives.

HR analytics, reporting, and workforce planning experience.
