The Enterprise Applications portfolio supports critical university systems across student, financial, and administrative domains, enabling core academic and operational functions. This team plays a central role in advancing UVA’s digital transformation, including major initiatives such as the OneUVA Workday transition.
The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks an experienced and highly capable leader to serve as Senior Director for Enterprise Applications, operating as Deputy to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) during a two-year period of institutional transformation.
As the AVP assumes concurrent leadership responsibilities in support of the university’s OneUVA Workday transition, the Senior Director will provide day-to-day leadership and management across key areas of the Enterprise Applications portfolio. This role will ensure operational excellence, sustained strategic progress, and strong partnership with stakeholders across the university.
Reporting to the AVP for Enterprise Applications, the Senior Director will lead designated teams and serve as a senior representative of the portfolio in institutional forums, as delegated. This role will act as an integrator across stakeholders, systems, and priorities to ensure coordinated execution and will play a critical role in advancing the AVP’s strategic vision through strong relationship management and influence.
This is a two year limited term position with funding ending January 2028.
Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Partner closely with the AVP to ensure technical leadership aligns with architectural vision, institutional priorities, and long-term strategy
- Lead with a strong executive presence, modeling professionalism, sound judgment, and clear decision-making across teams and stakeholders
- Directly manage enterprise application teams and/or directors, setting clear expectations and driving accountability for results
- Coach and develop leaders, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and leadership growth at all levels
- Maintain team stability, engagement, and high performance during periods of enterprise transformation
- Champion a collaborative, relationship-driven environment that encourages innovation and cross-functional partnership
- Support strategic hiring, talent development, and succession planning to build a strong leadership bench
Operational Oversight
- Oversee the reliable, secure, and scalable operation of enterprise Student, Document Imaging, and Admissions systems
- Ensure strong performance across integrations, infrastructure platforms, and enterprise data environments
- Provide oversight of student success platforms such as Stellic, with a focus on seamless integrations and high-quality data flow
- Partner across Infrastructure, Security, and other ITS units to deliver coordinated, enterprise-level services
- Lead through complex operational challenges, managing escalations and major incidents with composure and clarity
- Monitor service levels, performance metrics, and risk posture, proactively identifying and addressing issues
Strategic Initiative Execution
- Sponsor and lead high-impact enterprise application initiatives aligned with institutional priorities
- Drive forward ERP optimization, enterprise data warehouse efforts, and student system enhancements
- Translate strategic vision into clear, actionable plans with measurable outcomes
- Provide executive-level insights, analysis, and recommendations to inform decision-making and trade-offs
- Lead change management efforts, ensuring alignment, adoption, and long-term success across stakeholders
- Approach challenges with an innovative mindset, identifying creative and effective solutions to complex problems
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a senior liaison to Enrollment, Institutional Reporting and Analytics, and academic partners
- Build trust and credibility through strong executive communication, clarity, and consistency
- Represent ITS in advisory bodies and governance forums with confidence and influence
- Drive alignment across distributed schools and units with competing priorities
- Foster strong, relationship-driven partnerships across the institution
- Communicate proactively and effectively regarding system priorities, risks, and organizational impact
Financial & Risk Stewardship
- Support budget oversight, vendor management, and strategic investment prioritization
- Evaluate business cases with a focus on impact, scalability, and long-term value
- Assess resource needs and implementation risks to inform sound decision-making
- Ensure alignment with data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Experience: 10 years of relevant experience
- Licensure: None
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree
- 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in student systems
- Demonstrated success leading large, complex technical teams
- Significant experience with ERP systems (HR, Finance, and/or Student), integrations, reporting, and security
- Proven ability to lead through change while maintaining operational stability
- Experience in higher education or similarly complex, shared governance environments
- Strong executive presence with exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and lead through collaboration
- Track record of innovative problem-solving and delivering results in complex environments
- Oversee enterprise PeopleSoft Student, Document Imaging, and Admissions systems enabling reliability, scalability and secure operations
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
In addition, routinely use standard office equipment and occasional moving about inside (and outside) the office and positioning equipment weighing up to 50lbs.

Work arrangement is hybrid (in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines), with an expectation of regular presence on UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA.
