Play a pivotal role in advancing wound care delivery within a rapidly expanding, multidisciplinary plastic surgery program. This position offers the opportunity to directly impact outcomes for complex patients while helping shape a growing service line in a brand-new clinical setting.
Join UVA Health’s Plastic Surgery Wound Care Program as an Advanced Practice Provider and engage in a hybrid inpatient and outpatient role that blends procedural care, longitudinal patient management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. You will work alongside experienced providers and engaged physician leadership while building expertise in advanced wound care therapies.
The Role:
In this hybrid APP position, you will help drive clinical excellence across both ambulatory and inpatient wound care, managing a diverse and often complex patient population. This is a dynamic role where autonomy and collaboration are equally valued, and where your clinical judgment directly influences care continuity and outcomes.
You will be supported through direct mentorship from experienced clinicians while building toward independent panel management and clinical specialization.
On a typical week, you will balance clinic-based care with inpatient rounding while contributing to a program that is actively expanding to meet growing patient demand.
- Provide comprehensive wound care management across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Perform procedures including wound debridement and advanced wound interventions
- Participate in inpatient rounding with the wound ostomy care (WOC) team
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary care team spanning Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)
- Structure and manage independent patient schedules and clinical templates
- Partner with surgeons and specialists on complex reconstructive and wound cases
- Gain exposure to advanced therapies, including topical oxygen therapy, skin substitutes, and innovative wound care modalities
- Contribute to the growth, efficiency, and development of a rapidly scaling wound care program
This role follows a structured weekly model:
- Ambulatory care: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
- Inpatient rounding: Tuesday, Thursday
- 32 patient-facing hours with administrative flexibility built into inpatient days
Advanced Practice Provider Scope of Practice:
Clinical
- Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice
- Acts as part of a specialty team, collaborating with other clinicians as appropriate
- Provides health education to patients
- Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation
- Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory standards
Leadership
- Supports development of best practices and protocols in specialty
- Serves on committees and workgroups to enhance patient care
- Provides education to learners in the clinical space
- Mentors new team members
Administration
- Contributes to clinical quality improvement work
- Participates in professional governance through the APP Council
- Attends team development meetings at local and departmental levels
Professional
- Adheres to ASPIRE values in all professional interactions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master’s Degree as an Advance Practice Provider - Nurse Practitioner or as an Advance Practice Provider - Physician Assistant
Experience: One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of the UVA Medical Center, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and the appropriate certifying bodies. Must be enrolled with all payers through Delegated Credentialing and can participate in Medicaid and Medicare for billing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $124,845.00 - $155,043.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
