Job Summary:

As the Head Baker for Roasted Root Cafe, you will lead the evolution of our bakery and savory programs from the ground up. We are looking for a visionary leader to help us build a brand centered on wholesome, handmade, and locally sourced ingredients. Our mission is to provide travelers and locals alike with delicious, farm-fresh alternatives to fast food. We want to be efficient yet personable with our guests!

In this highly collaborative role, you will work closely with our General Manager to source premium products, develop signature recipes, and mentor a talented team of bakers and cooks. At Roasted Root Cafe, we believe exceptional coffee deserves equally exceptional food. Roasted Root’s parent company is Timberroot Rustic Retreats, the regional leader in STR management specializing in experiential stays on multi-unit campuses near in rich natural settings typically close to natural attractions such as National Forests, State Parks, and National Parks. Roasted Root’s Scenic Highway location will complement the Timberroot Guest Experience staying on any of our three Chattanooga campuses whilst the location on Cummings Highway stands in a unique spot at a busy intersection in a fast-growing but underserved part of Chattanooga.

All Timberroot-related food companies are dedicated to providing real food, farm-to-table whenever possible. Our mission is to provide high quality drinks and food products made from real, organic, and natural ingredients. Our goal is to partner with as many local farms as possible!

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare high-quality pastries, breads, desserts, cookies, custards, and other goods from scratch.
Develop innovative seasonal menus and signature pastry offerings.
Develop a savory breakfast and lunch menu.
Manage daily bakery production, scheduling, and inventory.
Ensure consistency, presentation, and food quality standards.
Train, mentor, and lead bakery staff.
Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen (Serve Safe required)
Control food costs and minimize waste while maintaining premium quality.
Collaborate with the café team on menu development and special events.

Qualifications

Degree in Pastry Arts, Baking & Pastry, Culinary Arts (with a pastry concentration), or equivalent professional training.
Minimum of 3 years of professional baking or pastry experience, with leadership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of artisan breads, laminated doughs, cakes, desserts, and pastry techniques.
Must be able to scale recipes for large production
Highly creative with a passion for developing new recipes and seasonal offerings.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work early mornings and weekends
ServSafe Certification

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for 8 + hours a day

Compensation:

Salary Range $48,000 to $55,000
