Job description

Summary: Are you passionate about narrowing the wealth and income divide by strengthening the financial well-being of Chattanooga residents? Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE) is seeking a loan processor who is passionate about using their skills to help low and moderate-income individuals become homeowners.

The loan processor performs mortgage loan processing functions including gathering customer documentation and providing customer service; participates in customer work plan development and credit counseling plans; and assists loan officers in preparing customers for mortgage loan approval; participation at homebuyer and realtor workshops, financial fitness training, neighborhood and community-building events and other sponsored activities.

Essential Job Function:

1. Process mortgage loan applications and enter borrower data, including credit reports, into the automated loan origination system.

2. Counsels borrowers regarding loan application disclosures and ensures compliance with State and Federal residential lending regulations.

3. Performs automated underwriting submissions and communicates minimum required documentation findings to the borrower.

4. Uses automated loan origination and processing software to track and document activities.

5. Ensures that loan program requirements are adhered to and properly documented.

6. Verifies receipt of required documentation, verifies borrower’s information, and guides the processing of loans.

7. Maintains communication with borrower, real estate agent, and loan officers as needed, during loan processing.

8. Works with other homeownership staff to develop customer credit counseling plans, leading to mortgage readiness.

9. Coordinates and schedules loan closings.

10. Request orders for required outside services such as appraisals, surveys, credit report updates, etc.

11. Verifies calculations and ensures that maximum loan program limits and guidelines are adhered to.

12. Monitor the clearance of underwriting conditions.

13. Participates in events, including homebuyer education classes, realtor orientations, neighborhood activities, etc.

14. Must be able to work a flex schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate customer meetings.

15. Must obtain within one year of hire, and maintain thereafter, certifications required by law for the position.

16. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Homeownership Center Manager.

Education, Experience, and Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field and two (2) years of experience in mortgage lending; experience in credit counseling, homeownership counseling or related field preferred; or, a combination of related education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of credit, personal financial management, and household budgeting, residential lending principles, practices, and mortgage lending guidelines.
Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in an environment requiring time sensitivity and deadlines.
Ability to establish business relationships with referral sources and industry partners.
Strong knowledge of loan processing and loan underwriting software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Salesforce experience is helpful
