Full Job Description

Position Overview

The Workforce Development Specialist - Business Services is responsible for building effective connections between private business and the public workforce system in the ten-county Southeast region. This role aims to enhance working relationships between the American Job Center and area businesses, the Southeast Tennessee Local Workforce Board, and community partners. The position reports to the Title I Program Manager and facilitates business engagement initiatives across the ten-county region with oversight and guidance from the One Stop Operator and the local board. This position should have a strong collaborative relationship with board staff team to ensure the initiatives of the local board are implemented in the public workforce system.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Meet with area businesses to assess workforce skills needs, identify resources, and recommend solutions provided by the public workforce system.

· Establish and maintain business development processes and schedules following current timelines and priorities identified by the Local Board.

· Coordinate and promote a single point of contact approach through an integrated Business Services Team and organizations external to AJC including economic development, community-based organizations, education, and other partner agencies.

· Create demand for WIOA business services by conducting strategic outreach.

· Compile and analyze activity and performance to report against KPIs, WIOA Performance Metrics, and local plan goals within the American Job Centers.

· Maintain current knowledge and awareness of local, regional, and state workforce trends and advances.

· Communicate trends and insights from business contacts regarding workforce, business climate, and related issues to colleagues on a timely basis.

· Research sector needs and labor market trends and projects and strategies to improve business services.

· Manage the Rapid Response activities for the local area, in coordination with the Rapid Response Coordinator, Business Services Team and other One-Stop partners.

· Create and maintain business services contracts with employers in the local area.

· Develop and maintain contacts with community organizations, educational institutions, employers, and business organizations for customer outreach, recruitment, and positive public relations.

· Provide training, technical assistance, and guidance to the AJC staff and partners on business services processes and procedures that align with the regional and local plan strategies.

Assist in the development of marketing and printed materials related to American Job Center business services.

· Develop business services-based content and communicative materials for the American Job Center’s digital content strategy and social medic websites presence, following digital content brand and accessibility rules.

· Prepare and deliver a variety of workforce development presentations on business services for the local area as needed.

· Support other duties and responsibilities on a temporary or ongoing basis as necessary for the delivery of quality service within the American Job Center.

Desired Qualifications

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information provided by professional journals, general media, and government (i.e. policies and procedures updates, labor trends, etc.). Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public. Exceptional customer service skills in the delivery of services to employers and job seekers.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish factual framework, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) or Associate’s Degree with two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
