What you will be doing in the role of a State Policy Analyst

Empowered by our expansive grassroots network, Komen is leading the fight for those impacted by breast cancer locally, in our states and in Washington, D.C. Komen works to identify, through a transparent and broad-based, intensive vetting and selection process, the advocacy issues that have the greatest potential impact on Komen’s mission.

The State Policy Analyst supports and promotes Susan G. Komen’s public policy & advocacy initiatives related to breast cancer and public health policy within state governments. This individual will support state staff in analyzing and tracking cross-cutting policies impacting health care coverage prioritized by Komen's Center for Public Policy.

What you will bring to the table

Serves as subject matter expert for Komen’s Center for Public Policy, working to advance Komen’s policy agenda with state legislatures and within executive offices.

Analyzes and monitors legislation and regulatory developments related to state Medicaid programs.

Interprets new state laws/regulations and federal laws/regulations on health care coverage impacting states and how these policies will impact the breast community.

Prepares policy resource materials (i.e. talking points, briefs, position statements).

Advises internal teams on political trends and regulatory changes to inform strategy.

Develops and maintains external relationships with state agencies and departments, as well as national organizations and partners, working in state regulatory efforts related to health care coverage.

Collects data from various sources including State Medical Care Advisory Committees (MCAC), State Insurance Commissioners, rural health programs and coalition partners.

Monitors the implementation of passed legislation to ensure patients are benefiting as intended.

Promote an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, scientific integrity, and professional and organizational growth.

We know you will have and be able to

Bachelor’s Degree: Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Government Affairs, Communications

Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience with state legislatures and agencies.

Extensive knowledge about the state legislative and regulatory processes.

Experience successfully working with state agencies in implementation of policies.

Proven ability to compile, analyze and interpret legislation, policies, administrative rules and guidance as well as other data as needed.

Strong written communication, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required for effective interaction with policymakers, volunteers and other high-profile persons.

Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.

Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic policy landscape.

Solid organizational skills and advanced-level proficiency with MS Office products.

Able to travel to the Annual Advocacy Summit; minimal in-state travel for meetings and events.

Experience working for or with patient advocacy organizations.

Working knowledge of the breast cancer public policy and advocacy environment.

Approximate annual salary of $64,000-$82,000, exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location. Additionally, this is what Komen provides away from the computer:
