Full Job Description

Oak View Group:

Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with a platform spanning venue development and end-to-end capabilities across venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Founded in 2015, the company serves a collection of seven world-class owned venues and a client roster of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions, spanning four continents.

Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing is responsible for the promotion of concerts, sporting events, and shows within Chartway Arena and S.B. Ballard Stadium as well as handling advertising for ODU’s basketball and football programs. Responsible for maintaining relationships with media partners and ensuring fulfillment of contracts while overseeing the media buying and billing process. This individual will manage, supervise, and coordinate all the activities of the Marketing department to reach budget goals and generate revenue for the facility. The Director of Marketing will implement marketing plans, manage event advertising budgets and promotions, and ensure successful sales for events.

This role pays an annual salary of $75,000-$88,000 and is bonus eligible.

This position will remain open until November 6, 2026.

About the Venue:

Chartway Arena is a 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University. Operated by OVG, Chartway Arena is known as one of the premier mid-sized collegiate venues in the country. Chartway Arena is home to Old Dominion Monarch men's and women's basketball, as well as concerts, family shows, and other attractions for the Hampton Roads area.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the development, implementation and reconciliation of comprehensive marketing programs to promote concerts/shows and venues
Plan, organize, lead and control public relations efforts for the facility
Direct, hire, and train marketing staff members and oversee daily activities and long-term projects within the department
Assist with marketing campaign development and support for ODU Athletics programs
Work in conjunction with Group Sales, Premium Seating, and Box Office departments to maximize revenues.
Conceptualize and implement unique, impactful event-day experiences for artists, promoters, tour personnel, and guests
Solicit guest feedback and make recommendations to improve and enhance the guest experience
Develop new marketing programs and initiatives to maximize ticket sales, such as third-party partnerships, new media avenues, and non-traditional marketing opportunities for the facility and its events
Negotiate contracts and implement creative cash/trade proposals/campaigns with partners, including digital media, radio, print, TV, outdoor, and influencers
Develop and implement annual marketing budget, goals, objectives, policies and priorities
Create, prepare and implement advertising and promotional plans for events
Utilize sales data, marketing analytics, and AI tools to create and revise marketing strategies
Communicate frequently with media partners, promoters and entertainment agencies to maintain cooperative, positive relationships
Assist with game day operations of ODU Athletic events, including Football and Basketball
Manage, maintain, and engage fans on all forms of social media.
Manage event settlement packets, including collecting invoices, coding and creating a back-up packet
Develop collateral, including fliers, newsletters, websites, posters, postcards, email blasts, and press releases
Provide data and reports to corporate marketing leadership as needed
Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with contacts and co-workers
Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed
Perform all other duties as required

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in marketing, public relations, business administration or other related fields
5-7 years of increasingly responsible experience in sales and/or marketing, preferably with a sports facility, convention center, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose public assembly facility
Knowledge of marketing and advertising/sponsorship program development
Experience with media buying and promotions
Proficient in social media marketing on various platforms
Knowledge of website and email design, maintenance, and optimization
Knowledge of public relations
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experienced with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Must be a committed, organized user of social media tools, with an understanding of how to drive programs through digital media and website maintenance and manage database marketing to reach new customers and drive increased revenue
