Western Tidewater Community Service Board welcomes you to join our team!

At WTCSB our mission is to provide a coordinated system of quality recovery-oriented care in Mental Health, Intellectual Disability, and Substance Abuse Services to the citizens of the cities of Franklin and Suffolk and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton. We continually strive to value staff, support diversity, and promote excellence and personal choice in the provision of consumer care.

We are seeking Peer Support Specialists for the Service Member Veteran and Family (SMVF) Division of our organization:

Must be a Service Member, Veteran, Military Spouse or dependent

General Responsibilities for SMVF Peer Support Specialist:

Provide peer support services to consumers with serious mental illness, substance abuse, and/or intellectual disabilities
Function as a role model to peers
Exhibit competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serve as a consumer advocate, and provide consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient and inpatient settings
Assists and guides consumers toward achievement of specific goals identified by the consumer and specified in the Individual Service Plan (ISP).
Occasionally transport Veterans to outside of the agency appointments such as the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Peer with MH/SA lived experience, veteran preferred

Lead recovery groups, share community resources and assist with linkage
Maintain/reinforce partnerships with veteran preferred employers

Qualifications and Skills for Peer Support Specialist:

Must be a Veteran, Dependent or Spouse of a Veteran
Be a certified Peer Recovery Specialist or gain certification within the first 3 months of hire
Currently possess, or can acquire, base access
Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable DMV record
Experience in using various computer software applications and/or Electronic Health Record (Preferred)
