Full Job Description

The Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (SRHA) is seeking a motivated, service-focused FSS Coordinator to lead a HUD Family Self-Sufficiency program serving Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher families. This role blends case management, community partnership building, program compliance, and financial empowerment. You will help participants set meaningful goals, connect with education and employment resources, build financial stability, and work toward long-term self-sufficiency.

What You Will Do

Recruit, orient, enroll, and retain eligible participants in the FSS Program.
Develop and monitor Contracts of Participation and Individual Training and Services Plans tailored to each family’s goals.
Provide ongoing case management, identify barriers, coordinate referrals, and connect participants with employment, education, childcare, financial literacy, homeownership, and community resources.
Monitor participant progress, earned-income changes, supportive-service participation, compliance, and successful completion milestones.
Calculate and monitor FSS escrow accounts; coordinate updates, interim disbursements, forfeitures, and completion documentation.
Maintain complete, timely, and audit-ready case files, progress notes, participant contacts, and required HUD and agency data.
Assist, as assigned, with annual and interim reexaminations, income and eligibility verification, rent calculations, and EIV discrepancy review.
Prepare reports, support audits and HUD monitoring, participate in Program Coordinating Committee activities, and build strong partnerships with employers, schools, workforce organizations, and service providers.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Business Administration, Counseling, or a related field preferred; an associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
Two years of experience in housing, FSS, eligibility, case management, or a related social-service program preferred.
Working knowledge of HUD-assisted housing, Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, eligibility, recertification, income calculation, or related program requirements.
Strong case-management, communication, customer-service, problem-solving, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to interpret regulations and policies, manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with diverse participants and community partners.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic records, housing software, and data-tracking systems.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to obtain FSS Coordinator certification within six months of hire.

Preferred Experience

HUD Family Self-Sufficiency program administration; PIC, EIV, occupancy, eligibility, rent calculation, or housing-management software experience; or related housing certifications.

Work Environment and Employment Conditions

This position works across office, field, residential, and community settings and may require local travel, home visits, and occasional evening or off-site meetings. The employee must be able to perform standard office and computer work, communicate effectively, navigate agency and residential locations, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Employment is subject to applicable pre-employment screening requirements, which may include a criminal background review, drug screening, and verification of driving eligibility. Continued employment is dependent upon available grant funding.
