LIFE SAFETY EDUCATION INTERN
Virginia Beach Fire Department Life Safety Education Division
The Virginia Beach Fire Department's (VBFD) Life Safety Education (LSE) Division develops and delivers fire and life safety education programs designed to reduce the risk of preventable injuries and deaths throughout the community. Educational programs serve audiences of all ages, from preschool children to older adults, through classroom instruction, community outreach, and public education initiatives.
The LSE Division oversees a variety of programs, including:

Safety Squad in Virginia Beach City Public Schools

Child Passenger Safety

Youth Fire Setting Prevention & Intervention

Operation Smoke Alarm

Older Adult Fire and Fall Prevention Education
Internship Responsibilities
The Life Safety Education Intern will assist the LSE team with a variety of educational, administrative, and community outreach activities, including:

Assist with delivering fire and life safety education programs in preschools, homeschool groups, elementary schools, and other community settings.

Support public education and community outreach events by interacting with residents and helping facilitate activities.

Assist in designing and preparing educational materials, flyers, brochures, handouts, event signage, and social media content.

Help organize, inventory, and maintain educational supplies and program materials.

Answer phone calls and respond to public inquiries by providing basic information and directing questions to appropriate staff.

Assist visitors to the Life Safety Education office by providing educational resources and program information.
-
Communicate with volunteers regarding program schedules and event support.
-
Prepare educational materials, equipment, and vehicles for upcoming programs and community events.

Perform administrative tasks, including data entry, scheduling assistance, filing, and other office support duties.

Participate in special projects that support community risk reduction initiatives.
Application Period: Applications accepted for Winter/Spring internships during the school year (September–May).
Anticipated Schedule: 27-40 hours a week would be ideal. Schedule can be flexible around school, (some weekend events), but we have programs at least 3 days a week
