We are currently seeking Personal Care Assistants in Connecticut, with opportunities available in Middletown, Glastonbury, Manchester, Groton, Wethersfield, and the surrounding counties of Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Tolland

Job Description: Personal Care Assistant

Overview:

Happy Companion Homecare is seeking a compassionate Live-In Personal Care Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential care, support, and companionship to individuals in need, helping them maintain comfort, dignity, and quality of life in the home. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact through personalized, person-centered care.

Schedule:

The selected candidate will work Monday through Friday, with the possibility of occasional Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Chester, CT, providing care and support to a client living with dementia and a brain injury.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide personalized personal care assistance to the client, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and other activities of daily living, while maintaining dignity, comfort, and safety.
Assist with mobility, transfers, and repositioning using a gait belt as needed, while following safe transfer techniques and remaining alert to fall risks at all times. Support the client in a manner that promotes stability, prevents injury, and encourages independence when appropriate.
Provide care and supervision for a client with dementia and a brain injury, using patience, clear communication, redirection, and calm reassurance to support emotional and cognitive needs.
Assist with catheter-related care as directed by the care plan and agency guidelines, while observing for any concerns and promptly reporting changes to the appropriate supervisor.
Support meal preparation, feeding, hydration, and adherence to dietary requirements.
Perform medication reminders or assistance as assigned, in accordance with the care plan and agency policy.
Complete light housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment. Light housekeeping may include washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, ensuring toilets are clean, doing light laundry, wiping down tables and counters, and removing clutter. Additional cleaning tasks may be assigned as needed.
Provide companionship and engage the client in meaningful activities that promote comfort, well-being, and engagement.
Monitor and document any changes in the client’s condition, behavior, or needs, and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
Run errands and provide transportation to appointments as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned based on client needs

Requirements:

Compassionate, patient, and dependable with a strong commitment to providing quality care.
Experience supporting individuals with dementia, brain injury, mobility limitations, and fall risks preferred.
Ability to assist safely with transfers, repositioning, and mobility using a gait belt.
Willingness and ability to assist with personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and activities of daily living.
Ability to follow the client’s care plan closely and respond appropriately to changing needs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to provide calm, respectful redirection and reassurance.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for client dignity at all times.
Must be able to perform light housekeeping, meal support, companionship, errands, and appointment transportation as needed.
Must have a reliable, insured personal vehicle and be able to provide proof of insurance.
1–2 years of prior caregiving experience as a Personal Care Assistant or in a similar role is required..
