Full Job Description

firstPRO is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help design, build, and optimize scalable data platforms that power real-time analytics from connected medical devices. In this role, you will lead the development of high-performance batch and streaming data pipelines using Azure and Databricks, enabling timely, secure, and reliable access to data across the organization. This is a contract to hire position with the requirement to be onsite 2 days a week.

Required Experience

5+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines across cloud and hybrid environments
5+ years of experience implementing DevOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering and analytics solutions
Experience building production-grade data services, APIs, or microservices that enable downstream data consumption
Proven ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain enterprise data platforms in production environments

Required Technical Skills

Extensive hands-on experience building and optimizing production data pipelines using Azure Databricks
Strong expertise in PySpark, Spark SQL, Delta Lake, and Spark performance tuning, including:
Query optimization
Partitioning strategies
Shuffle optimization
Caching techniques
Resource utilization and cost optimization
Strong experience with Azure cloud services supporting data engineering and streaming architectures
Experience designing scalable ETL/ELT solutions for structured and unstructured data
Knowledge of data quality, validation frameworks, and privacy/security best practices for sensitive or regulated data

Preferred Skills

Experience with Azure Event Hubs and Azure Stream Analytics for IoT and telemetry data ingestion
Familiarity with Azure integration and data services supporting batch and streaming workloads
Experience partnering with Machine Learning teams to develop feature pipelines and deliver training or inference datasets
Understanding of modern data architecture patterns, including Medallion Architecture and Delta Lake

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable batch and real-time streaming data pipelines using Azure and Databricks
Build ETL/ELT processes that efficiently ingest, transform, validate, and curate large volumes of structured and unstructured data
Develop reusable data services, APIs, and microservices that support analytics, business applications, and AI/ML initiatives
Implement and optimize streaming solutions using Azure Event Hubs, Azure Stream Analytics, and related Azure technologies for high-volume telemetry data
Optimize Databricks workloads through Spark performance tuning, Delta Lake best practices, and cost-efficient architecture
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across Azure, Databricks, and hybrid data environments
Collaborate with software engineers, data analysts, machine learning engineers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
Implement software engineering best practices including automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, monitoring, and data quality controls
Ensure data solutions meet security, compliance, governance, and privacy standards

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline with 6+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or data warehousing
OR
Master's degree in a related technical field with 3+ years of relevant professional experience

Pay: $55.00 - $60.00 per hour
