ABOUT CARIS

Caris is an apolitical faith-based nonprofit pregnancy counseling organization, and a beacon of light in the Chicagoland region. Our mission is to see women and children thrive during and after unplanned pregnancy.

Our approach is unique: we serve by grace with love no matter what decision is made. We trust God to do the work that we are incapable of doing in our own strength. Services include professional counseling, support groups, workshops, and a community of resources. Caris provides pregnancy decision support, emotional support, and resource navigation. We do not provide psychotherapy, mental health treatment, diagnosis, or medical care. All services are donor supported and as a result are free.

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

The Faith-Based Counselor Consultant serves clients while supporting Caris' Christ-centered mission and organizational values. Counselors demonstrate servant leadership through compassionate client care and collaborative teamwork. This is an in-office part-time 1099 consultant position in downtown Chicago. An ideal candidate has both an administrative and a client-facing background. This dynamic position requires the ability to anticipate client and organizational needs, think critically, and counsel a variety of clients with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

This is a non-clinical consulting role. The Consultant must exemplify a committed and consistent walk of Faith and dependence on Jesus and have a personal calling to ministry and to the specific mission and vision of Caris. The Part-Time Counselor must also be in full alignment with the grace-filled approach and our Statement of Faith.

REPORTS TO

Office Manager

This position requires a master's degree as a baseline qualification. *Employment is contingent upon a successful completion of a background check.

As an Independent 1099 Consultant must have and/or obtain a Professional Liability Insurance and Cyber Liability Insurance and provide proof of coverage to Caris.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree in social work or counseling (Required).
LPC, LSW, LCSW, LCPC (Optional).
3-5 years of counseling experience: individual and group counseling.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using a cloud-based case management system.
Active listener with the ability to build solid relationships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred 2+ years of customer service or program coordination experience preferred.
Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Experience with crisis intervention preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require working evenings and weekends to meet clients’ needs and attend events.

Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment with long periods at a desk.Environment is subject to constant work interruptions. Employees work with continual interaction with clients and internal staff and ability to meet deadlines.

Caris Pregnancy Counseling & Resources' downtown Chicago office is the primary work location for this position; and is a smoke-free and drug-free environment. Work is to be conducted primarily from the Chicago loop location.

RESPONSIBILITIIES

Client Care

Provide compassionate pregnancy support counseling.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
Conduct follow-up with active clients.
Facilitate support Connection Groups developing life skills for clients.
Assist/Refer clients to viable vetted community resources.
Collaborate with internal team members.
Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Administration

Manage client intake processes, including preparation, collection, and organization of client intake paperwork.
Generate client reports and outcome metrics.
Collect client testimonials.
Contribute to "counselor chronicles", testimonies.
Support daily office operations.
Participate in meetings, special projects and team builders.

Outreach

Build relationships with community partners.
Represent Caris at outreach events.
Strengthen partnerships with churches, agencies, and businesses.
Assist with client recruitment and engagement.
Participate in community outreach activities to increase awareness of Caris services.
Assist in resolving client service or operational issues.

HOURS & PAY

8–12 hours per week (can increase/decrease based on client caseload)
In-Office (Downtown Chicago)
$35-$40 per Hour

SCHEDULE

1-2 Saturday morning shifts per month (4 hours each).
Remaining hours are flexible and may be scheduled Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday based on client needs and mutual availability.

IMPORTANT CONSULTANT CLASSIFICATION & INSURANCE NOTICE

This is a 1099 independent consultant engagement and a non-clinical role. The Consultant is responsible for maintaining all insurance, licenses, credentials, registrations, and other requirements applicable to the Consultant's independent professional practice. The Consultant must obtain and maintain Professional Liability Insurance and Cyber Liability Insurance and provide evidence of coverage to Caris. The Consultant must also ensure that Caris Pregnancy Counseling & Resources is appropriately listed under the applicable insurance policy as required by Caris and the consulting agreement.

Caris provides pregnancy decision support, emotional support, and resource navigation. We do not provide psychotherapy, mental health treatment, diagnosis, or medical care.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
