Full Job Description

Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC), is a Hispanic–owned, infrastructure engineering and scientiﬁc consulting ﬁrm based in Chicago. Established in 2003, the ﬁrm oﬀers structural-architectural engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, and occupational safety consulting services. We maintain a staﬀ of over 80 technical professionals delivering specialty consulting services for new infrastructure development, expansion, and renovation throughout Illinois and beyond, and we are adding to the team.

We are currently seeking a Senior Industrial Hygiene Professional to join our Chicago oﬃce. This is a leadership focused role responsible for overseeing industrial hygiene programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing complex projects from initiation through closeout. While the role maintains ﬁeld awareness, the primary focus is on project delivery, team leadership, client management, and technical oversight.

The Senior Industrial Hygiene Professional will lead the planning, execution, and review of industrial hygiene and hazardous materials projects in accordance with applicable EPA, OSHA, and IDPH regulations. This includes oversight of sampling strategies, data interpretation, and preparation of comprehensive technical reports that clearly communicate ﬁndings, risks, and recommendations. The role ensures all deliverables meet SPC quality standards and client expectations. In addition, this role is responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. The Senior Professional will proactively monitor project performance, manage ﬁnancials, and ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and proﬁtability targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understand project requirements, estimate resources needed for the completion of project.
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex industrial hygiene projects across multiple clients and industries.
Assign tasks to ﬁeld managers, Prepare Schedule of ﬁeld activities. Train and guide ﬁeld managers and technicians for speciﬁc project requirements.
Oversee preparation of the reports/drawings and Conduct review of project documents.
Discuss technical issues with VP, Management, Client, Customers, and Laboratories.
Attend project meetings and conduct presentations to the project team.
Develop detailed technical reports, recommendations, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
Mentor and supervise junior industrial hygienists, technicians, and project staﬀ.
Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and ensure projects are delivered on time.
Support proposal development, business development, and client relationship management.
Conduct audits at hazardous waste sites or participate in hazardous waste site investigations.
Develop or maintain industrial hygiene / safety programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos/lead management plans.
Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could aﬀect employee health, comfort, or performance.
Conduct Asbestos, LBP, and other hazardous materials survey/remediation oversight according to the project requirements as well as EPA, OSHA, and IDPH regulations and guidelines.
Review building as-built drawings and understand structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems to strategize ACM/LBP/Hazmat survey activities.
Collect bulk samples of suspected asbestos containing materials, lead based paint coatings, other dust, gases, vapors, or other potentially toxic materials for laboratory analysis.
Collect air samples of asbestos, lead, mold spores, nuisance dust, and other air contaminants as per the OSHA and NIOSH sampling methods.
Collect clearance lead dust wipes per HUD and IDPH protocols.
Conduct visual inspection, document observations, quantify suspect materials.
Conduct non-destructive LBP survey using XRF equipment.
Calibrate and use IH equipment in indoor and outdoor locations.
Prepare inspection/remediation reports for asbestos and lead projects. Develop picture log of sampled materials, Prepare drawings of sampling locations.
Interpret sampling results and communicate with project team.
Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Public Health, or a related ﬁeld.
CIH (Certiﬁed Industrial Hygienist) designation, in good standing.
10-15 years of experience in industrial hygiene or environmental health & safety, with at least 3 years in a project management or supervisory role.
Extensive knowledge of federal and state occupational health and safety regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and quality.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites as needed
Strong time management, budget management skills, and technical writing skills
