Full Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Accepts reservations for hospital rooms and completes reservation forms.
Refers to the Chief of Staff those physicians who are not authorized to admit patients.
Assigns patients to a hospital room based upon sex, diagnosis, age and current patient count and acuity on available units.
Interviews incoming patients prior to date of admission.
Gathers personal information required, including emergency notification numbers and insurance information.
Explains hospital policies regarding deposits, parking, personal items, and visitation.
Assists patients in understanding their insurance benefits if such information is available. Refers all uninsured patients to credit counselors or appropriate personnel.
Assigns private rooms and explains hospital pre-payment policy.
Inputs patient information in current computer system.
Greets patients registering for admission to the hospital.
Identify self and briefly explains admission procedures.
Prepares patient identification arm bands and places them on the patient.
Obtains necessary signature of consent for treatment and insurance forms.
Arranges to have patients escorted to their rooms.
Routes admission forms to the appropriate departments.
Maintains index of reserved and vacant beds.
Admits/discharges patients to and from specialty units, such as Emergency Rooms, Skilled Nursing Facility, Psychiatric Services, etc.
Courteously answers telephone calls. Routes calls or takes accurate message as is appropriate.
Assists Out-Patient referred clerks as required.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

Cover other desks when needed.
Xeroxing and filing.
Answering telephones.
Stuffing envelopes for mailers.
Other duties as assigned.

Good interpersonal communication.
Medical Terminology
Computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel
Typing at least 45 wpm
Self-motivated
Ability to work independently.
Previous Admitting experience preferred.

Must be available to work rotating shifts, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m., 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. and 11 p.m. - 7 a.m.

MUST BE VACCINATED FOR COVID-19

Arranges for efficient and orderly admission of inpatients. Ensures that accurate patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
