Software Support & IT Engineer

Custom Tax Software for Small Businesses & Tax Professionals Full-time On-site IT / Customer Support

About the Role

We build custom tax software used every day by small businesses and tax professionals, and we're looking for a hands-on Software Support & IT Engineer to be the frontline of technical assistance for our customers and the backbone of IT for our office.

In this role you'll become a deep expert in how our software works, help customers get the most out of it, and create the tutorials, FAQs, and videos that make it easy to learn. You'll also dig into tricky issues on your own, write clear documentation, use modern AI tools to speed up routine support work, and keep our office network running smoothly. It's an ideal role for someone who loves solving problems, communicating clearly, and owning the customer experience end to end.

What You'll Do

Support our customers. Deliver prompt, friendly, and effective technical support to small businesses and tax professionals using our proprietary tax software, by phone, email, and ticketing system.
Know our software inside and out. Develop a deep understanding of how our applications work and how customers use them, so you can answer questions accurately and resolve issues with confidence.
Troubleshoot the software. Diagnose and resolve issues in our proprietary applications, identify root causes quickly, and walk customers through clear solutions.
Research the hard problems. Investigate unclear or undocumented issues independently — reproducing problems, testing theories, and finding answers even when there's no direct help from engineering.
Create tutorials, FAQs, and videos. Build and maintain step-by-step tutorials, how-to guides, FAQs, and video walkthroughs that help customers learn the software and help themselves, reducing repeat tickets.
Automate support with AI. Use AI tools to draft responses, summarize tickets, build help content, and automate repetitive support tasks, continually improving how we work.
Set up and maintain the office network. Build, configure, and maintain the local office network — LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, VPN connectivity, Wi-Fi, and firewall management (including Meraki) — and troubleshoot connectivity issues as they arise.
Manage desktops and devices. Handle desktop support such as software installation, configuration, and updates, and manage computer and mobile device assets for the team.
Collaborate across teams. Work with engineering, product, and operations to escalate and resolve issues efficiently while keeping users informed throughout the process.

What You Bring

Proven experience in technical or customer support, with a strong grasp of software troubleshooting and customer service.
A genuine ability to learn complex software quickly and explain it simply to non-technical users.
Strong research and problem-solving skills — the drive to investigate unclear issues and find answers on your own.
Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to create clear tutorials, FAQs, and video content.
Working knowledge of Windows and basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, LAN/WAN, VPNs, and firewalls, including Meraki), with the ability to set up and maintain a small-office network.
A customer-first mindset and the ability to stay organized and calm in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

A college degree.
Experience using AI assistants such as Claude or Gemini to automate or accelerate support work.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.
Exposure to the tax, accounting, or financial software space.
Experience creating customer-facing documentation, knowledge-base articles, or tutorial videos.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
