About Fornaro Law

Fornaro Law is an Outside General Counsel practice built for business owners who need more than a reactive legal team. We work as embedded advisors — inside the conversation before problems become expensive, not just brought in to clean them up after.

The Role

This isn’t a traditional associate position. We’re not hiring people to do the work they’re assigned. We’re hiring attorneys who want to help decide what work should even be done.

At Fornaro Law, you’ll own client relationships, think like a business advisor, and move beyond the billable hour treadmill. The goal isn’t to complete transactions — it’s to help clients make better decisions.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re capable of more than your current role allows, you probably are. The OGC model is built for attorneys who think bigger than the assignment in front of them.

What You’ll Do

Serve as outside general counsel to middle market companies, family offices, and fast-growing entrepreneurs
Advise clients proactively on business decisions, risk, and strategy — not just legal tasks
Own long-term client relationships from day one
Collaborate with and learn from a senior team that operates as business advisors first

What We’re Looking For

6–12 years of experience as an attorney; firm, in-house, or in a client-facing role
Business-first thinker — you follow the business conversation, not just the legal one
Ownership mentality — you treat clients like they’re yours
Comfortable with ambiguity and able to bring structure to complex situations
Illinois bar admission required (or eligibility to waive in)

Strong backgrounds include:

Former firm owners or solo practitioners
In-house counsel at mid-market companies
Senior associates or junior partners ready for something different
